Greens odds on to win with Reform 2nd and Labour 3rd. Surely that would be the end of Starmer if that happened. One can only hope. I cant see some members of the party waiting for the annihilation in the May elections. https://www.oddschecker.com/po

Labour have done what now?! Surely publishing false tactical voting information through a misleading invented channel is in breach of some sort of election law/rules?
Depressing stuff. I'd have thought they should expand the false statements (lies) section to include more than just character attacks. And I can think of 350 million reasons why most decent people would agree

We need some form of PR for this exact sort of scenario.
Be a bit ridiculous if you've got roughly 60% left leaning constituency ending up with a right leaning party.
Agreed. And not because of the parties involved. More proportional representation just makes it feel like you have a bit more of a say imo. Mind you, I don't know how the system we have here in Wales for the Senedd elections affects turnout. I would have thought a PR element would increase turnout, but maybe that's not the case

Yup, regardless of parties, it's just a poor system. It was ridiculous when 25% of the country voted for UKIP and they ended up with a tiny amount of MPs.

Not just that scenario but the country as a whole, with Labour getting a huge majority on only 34% of the vote.
And of course the danger is that Reform will do the same if the vote continues to be split between five (or in Scotland) 6 parties.
But Labour and the Tories have never favoured PR because up to now one or the other has benefited from current system.
And if Labour were to changes with voting system as a last resort, I think they would just not have the time to do it.
Given it wasn't in their manifesto I struggle to see it getting through the Lords. Shame as am a fan of PR and think it would force parties to work together, much as they do at local level.

I don't recall a by-election generating this much attention before.
That may have been true before today but this is on today's BBC website, and all off the main broadcasters take the same approach.
Thursday 26th February is polling day in the Parliamentary by-election in Gorton and Denton.
Regarding issues directly concerning the Gorton and Denton constituency, there will be no coverage of any issues directly pertinent to the election campaign there on social media or any relevant BBC outlet between 06.00 – 22.00 (any such coverage before 06.00 must be referred to the Chief Adviser Politics).
The Election Guidelines say: Coverage will be restricted to uncontroversial factual accounts, such as the appearance of politicians at polling stations, or the weather. Subjects which have been at issue or part of the campaign, or other controversial matters relating to the election, must not receive coverage before the polls close, to ensure that nothing in the BBC’s output can be construed as influencing the ballot. Online sites will not have to remove archive reports, but should not republish them. Stories about the mechanics of the vote (such as incidents which may have occurred at polling stations) can be reported with appropriate impartiality.
Particular care should also be taken in personal use of social media on polling day. No opinion poll on any issue relating to the election may be published until after the polls have closed. Whilst the polls are open, it is a criminal offence to publish anything about the way in which people have voted in that election, based on information from voters after they have voted.

Reform picked a terrible candidate and in the last couple of weeks seem to have given up on winning the seat.
I hope Labour hold. The Greens are running a racially divisive dog whistle campaign using pictures of Starmer with Modi to exploit Muslim-Hindu tensions and of Lammy with Netanyahu to exploit Muslim-Jewish tensions.
FFS VT, are you just going to downvote everything I post for the sake of it. Its an awful campaign by the greens, based on racial divides. As somebody who was so vocal about racial division yesterday you are coming across as a rank hypocrite. It's been heavily criticised by Tell MAMA UK.

Highlighting connections, however loose, between dubious characters and your political opponents in order to discredit them you say? Who on earth would do such a thing???

Some interesting allegations, but not sure I believe them.
This is the van that has been seen outside a polling station in the Gorton and Denton by-election, prompting the Greens to report Labour to the police for allegedly breaching electoral law.
The National has not yet been able to confirm who has paid for the van.

Doesn't seem to be any actual markings, logos or identification that it's Labour. Also the wording does not scream Labour, it sounds like that weird Reform relative having a Facebook rant. Plus who the hell is the guy on the side? It's not the Labour candidate, so why is he there?
Feels like some weirdo with a van had too much free time on his hands and too few brain cells to see it's a waste of money.

Just over 2 hours to go… really intriguing this one … the turnout as much as the result itself will be telling … but I’m not sure what it will tell … all parties and candidates in this election have issues, weaknesses and strengths and the electorate is a very mixed bag .. many I would say right now don’t necessarily have a natural home of where to pop their x on the ballot paper…. I think however when the result, turnout and gains and losses percentage wise comes out it will deliver more questions than answers.

Whilst Labour put out a dodgy leaflet referring to a fake tactical voting site (which is not against electoral law), I can't believe that it would engage in this sort of dodgy practice (which isn't appropriate, especially near a polling station).

Really says it all.
Just a shame they don’t spew more hate and fear mongering really as that’s what real politicians do. The losers just promise to do the moral thing and make everybody’s lives better the woke morons.
Make war not love.

Yeah they should be threatening violence against people whose views they disagree with.
