He could well do a better job with the better resources at a Palace or Brighton. Though Id expect these teams owners will be more and more worried by his inflexibility and his teams increasingly fragility when going behind. I also feel with the resources and salary he has been given he has been poor this season. We should expect more than what has actually transpired in the past 8/9 months.

Yes we should expect more but as a manager in his first job and very young he is still learning, had 2 over performing seasons and one slightly below par in the prem, this season underperformed so far but when automatic promotion is still in our hands we shouldn’t jump to conclusions. We are fragile going behind this season but previous Kmac teams were highly resilient, I don’t think you can scout a players ability to battle back you only find out when they play regularly for you.

| Just seen this thread on the Wrexham forum: on 08:44 - Feb 22 by mrshallisfit | Christ that is a pretty thick post. McK overcoaches for his one plan and then cant or wont adapt and change when a game requires it. The players are so wired into that tgat they cant adapt when needed. Hence the lack of comeback wins when we do go behind. Weirdly, I thought we had cracked for the first time this season it at 3-2. For us to then implode due to poor defending and poor leadership on the pitch. Sorry but I expect much more from a manager with the resources at his reach and the salary he is on. Rather than throw out a cheap insult, how about you take a look at the inconsistency in your own post? Whether or not KM overcoaches as you say is up for debate, however that was not the cause of yesterday's defeat. You rightly point out that we came back (twice) after going behind and then took the lead, however we then "imploded due to poor defending". In fact all 5 goals that we conceded were due to Sunday League defending. But what's that got to do with overcoaching? What more could KM have done, or indeed any manager with the resources at his reach, to counteract such piss poor individual mistakes? Bottom line is if you concede 5 goals in a game, you're going to lose. | | | |

Five years ago they were either watching Wrexham play Non-League, and moaning, or watching Man United play Champions League, and moaning. Or watching Mickey Mouse Club with their Disney subscriptions.

However it's a problem that's plaguing football in general. Players having some of their natural, off the cuff talent, supressed for the sake of systems etc. In some cases it's almost like the system is everything, when all it actually is, is a means to an end and most certainly not the end itself. I fear it's not going to get any better either and we'll all end up with robotic, one dimensional football.

| Just seen this thread on the Wrexham forum: on 19:58 - Feb 21 by CopfordBlue | Was this being suggested when we were ripping up league one towards the end of 22/23 and then beating more expensive, experienced teams the following season? It was coaching that took our team from the middle of league one to the premier league. We lost today because of poor defending, nothing to do with being over-coached. |
We lost for a myriad of reasons, & poor defending was certainly a very large element of it, but just because one thing is true doesn't mean that another is false. The over-coached charge is also worth considering, or at the very least defined; working hard on the training ground to practice drills, allowing the team to learn patterns & know where their teammates are going to be has to be a good thing, however inflexibility, allowing opposition coaches to also know how you are going to play so that they are effectively set up against you, can leave you very vulnerable. For me, the later has been the case a number of times this season, despite us having the best squad in the league. Whether it's employing a low block, playing with a 3rd midfielder, or quickly hitting us out wide when our fullbacks have pushed forward, we have consistently struggled with tactics from managers of sides with, on paper, far inferior players this season, and it has really surprised me that McKenna has not adapted & varied our style; before the 85th minute at least. We have depended on moments of individual brilliance from Philogene & Clarke too many times to win us points this season; of course you can argue that the manager scouted them & wanted them in his team, so it's down to him that they are performing; but they cost £40m odd between them & were already recognised as 2 of the 3 outstanding wide players in the Championship the year we went up. Crucially, they won't get the space & time that they've gotten this season, from Premier League defenders, should we be promoted. We have to find another way of playing, other than the tactic of replacing the full front 4 attackers, & a midfielder, with fresh 'finishers' in the exact same formation, with the same patterns of play; we are too predictable & ... over- coached. We have to cut out poor individual errors also. [Post edited 23 Feb 5:30]

No one is questioning the result, are they? It’s opinion on why we lost that’s the debate you bring up. As I said, it’s different people with differing opinions. Your opinion is that some of the other opinions are wrong. That’s okay. Also, take all the troll posts with a bucket of salt. There’s plenty just on the wind up!!

| Just seen this thread on the Wrexham forum: on 08:05 - Feb 23 with 545 views | OldFart71 | Could it be that our team would be more suited to the Premier League than the Championship. The Championship needs a blend of class and getting stuck in players. When you break down our squad we have the likes of Philogene,Clarke, Egeli,Cajuste,Taylor ,Mehmeti and Davis. All technically good, but none of your get stuck in type players. I don't necessarily go with the overcoached angle although you must allow players to express themselves and a good knowledge of the opposition. That is why it was disturbing to see the likes of Moore and Broadhead score against us as we had first class knowledge of both of them. There does seem to be a problem with the blend. Like tea and coffee the wrong blend ends with a bad taste in your mouth. Maybe the likes of MA and KM are so tied up with profit making due to the Gamechanger situation that they are buying too many players with a sell on profit in mind rather than the here and now ? | | | |

We do excel with wide players and one or Two attacking Midfielders. That does not in any way represent the best squad just because it is probably One of the most expensive.

Since you are such an expert, I’d like to come and stand next to you and hear you explain how it is a good thing that we have managed to turn the highest assisting full back in the league to someone who looks a shadow of his former self in terms of his contribution on the pitch. Actually, don’t bother. I’m sure it will end up being something about how it proves KM’s system is supposed to work.

| Just seen this thread on the Wrexham forum: on 09:09 - Feb 22 by JakeITFC | Do you think that Leif is playing the same role in every game this season? Does Clarke now playing as an inside 10 look like how Philogene plays that role when he’s fit? Do you think that Mehmeti and Burns creating an overload on the right is the same as how we look when Nunez and Egeli play in those roles? How about Akpom coming on as a second forward and Nunez going in as our deep midfielder yesterday? Those are tactical changes made either from the start or during the game yesterday. It is fair to say they didn’t all works as planned (although some of them did as we came from behind twice and took the lead) but to say he doesn’t change from a rigid format or make changes in game is either a) the opinion of somebody who doesn’t know what they are watching or b) a lie. I’d argue it was mistakes from the goalkeeper and defence that cost us. |

Bringing on a third midfielder, or even an extra defender might have seen a different outcome. Perhaps though we took the lead too early.

Please do. I think a fair criticism of McKenna this season is that he was too worried about making us Premier League ready in our approach and wanted to make us a team that controlled games and limited transitions and so Leif was there to give us a central body (think we also wanted a more physical profile as our central 10 to change from a playmaker to a runner in behind/second striker). I also think that Leif’s output has been impacted by the way that Philogene wants to play and had quite a lot of success with in the first half of the season. As it happens I think we’ve actually gone back to a more similar style to our last championship team since January - Mehmeti is a more classic McKenna style number 10, Clarke is tucking in more and Leif is getting around the outside again. This has left us a bit more exposed on the transition as a result (and unfortunately we were on the wrong side of the basketball games that we used to love on Saturday). Who knows which way it will go from here, but I think one thing is for sure and that is if we go up we need a fairly big overhaul of personnel and style to have any chance in the Prem.
