| We have become Leeds on 22:00 - Mar 2 with 2078 views | Vaughan8 | Certainly not. Leeds didn't lose a game for 3 months Jan-Mar and got into the top 2. They were so bad at the end 4 points from last 6 games which is why they failed. | | | |
| We have become Leeds on 22:03 - Mar 2 with 2027 views | SomethingBlue | But Boro didn’t pull one out in their previous three? And dropped four points at home, including against Oxford. We may make it, we may not, but I fear too many people have lost their minds this season. | |

| We have become Leeds on 22:04 - Mar 2 with 1991 views | FrimleyBlue | Not really Boro have one of the best cm partnerships in the league. Barely played a game without them. There are 4 sides with double digit gds. Two of them are top two at present. The top 3 would be fighting it out weekly if it wasn't for our opening month. Both boro and Coventry have had blips. 2nd is still in our own hands. | |

That sounds quite possible, they did seem to be playing catch up for much of the season though Obviously it's in our hands still but we can take some consolation that Leeds sorted it out in the second season and ended up with 100 points so it isn't all bad

| We have become Leeds on 22:07 - Mar 2 with 1924 views | Joey_Joe_Joe_Junior | A bit of recency bias maybe. I guess 8 points is an ok total for Boro in their last 5 games because they had 3 very hard away games (Sheff U, Cov and tonight). However, it could have been so much better as well when you consider who they dropped points to. If we win tomorrow, it will be 12 out of 15 for us. | |

They were lucky tho with those who came down from the prem Next season the champ could have Spurs. Forest. Wolves in it Promotion looks incredibly impossible next season. ( unless wolves do a luton) Plus nodge have clements who if they came him i think they will be well up there next sesson. Plus southamton sorting themselves out. Non promotion this season honestly imo could be an Evans type issue for us with finances having to suddenly be reduced the season after etc.

Cov and Boro's strength this season are much more expected.

There's no way Burnley are getting out of the bottom three.

A win Saturday with the Town winner deflected off Hirst's bell end will do just fine.

| We have become Leeds on 23:51 - Mar 2 with 1381 views | positivity | if boro keep pulling results out every week like 1-3 at cov, 0-0 at home to oxford, 1-1 at home to leicester, then we should be fine! even cov won 2 of 8 against some poor sides before their recent winning run! seriously though, we've just got to keep winning and not worry about the other sides | |

With all the talk we've had recently about what constitutes a "must win" game - well the home game V 'Boro may well turn out to be just that.

To a point arnt we playing catch up for at least the first two thirds of the season, Poor start, then the Blackburn and pompey debacles has left us with games in hand but behind unless we win them both that's our pressure to catch up, I think we went second for one game but I may be wrong on that, Fwiw I think we will win tonight,

True, but they did get promoted in a league much weaker than the one we’d likely face next year - Burnley, Wolves, either West Ham or Forest. And in addition to two well backed teams in Brum and Wrexham. Sheff Utd and Southampton are also finishing strongly. Could be an absolute battle next season!

it looks that way now, but really who knows. back in april 2024, we were 1 point ahead of leeds who were on a run of 15 unbeaten (13 wins!). you'd think that most of those would be "must-wins", yet we won just 2 of 6 and still finished 6 points clear. we could have won none of them and still been promoted!

i wouldn't mind us becoming leeds next year (as in a premier league side, 6 points clear of the drop zone)!

Both have built up decent squads in recent seasons, I do agree

This is somewhat borne out by the estimated values of the squads (if there is accepted to be a correlation between player value and quality/performance). It also gives some indication of who are over/underperforming. Some by a considerable margin. Are we good enough to finish top 2? by SuffolkPunchFC 18 Feb 13:31Although there is some value in looking at what was paid for players, imo the metric is too narrow. It doesn't as you say account for parachute clubs often having to pay a premium to get some players, and neither does it look at how players' value increases (or decreases) as they develop.
I'd suggest that a better metric is the estimated value of the squad. This is clearly less definitive, since transfer fees are generally easier to gauge / estimate accurately than current player valuation. However, given the same methods are used to estimate all teams, although the exact figure may be out, the relative value between clubs is likely to be in the right ballpark.
The estimated squad values as of now are :
Ipswich Town - £172M
Coventry City - £143M
Southampton FC - £137M
Leicester City - £124M
Sheffield United - £114M
Norwich City - £99M
Birmingham City - £92M
Middlesbrough FC - £92M
So yes, we're top of that list, but I suspect some of the others will surprise many people.
| We have become Leeds on 10:05 - Mar 3 with 579 views | itfcsuth | Maybe they're both good sides having very good seasons. Momentum and confidence is a hell of a drug in football. We just have to look after ourselves, and do the business. If we take care of our business then we will deservedly be promoted automatically, and if we don't manage to take care of our business we won't deserve to go up automatically. I've got nothing but praise for both sides, we were there in 2023/24, we felt unstoppable, fair play to them. [Post edited 3 Mar 11:45]
