Why is TWTD supporting the club regarding ReformUK? on 12:33 - Mar 24 by Prominent_Blue
'they will likely face retribution from Halo, Tingly Teds and Birketts who had found their logo featured on an official ReformUK social media page this morning.' Absolute nonsense. They will equally likely face NO retribution from any of them. Absurd to think this as it's only on here and that other echo chamber X that people are getting exercised !!

So what do you think happened then? The club made a personal invitation to Farage to come along to the ground and is therefore backing Reform but is now recanting as they've seen it's blown up in their faces? They were clearly naive in allowing the tour to take place and it was inevitable Reform would use it in the manner they have and would push things to the nth degree but there wasn't any official meetings, events etc, as per the story.
I doubt there was an invite from the club, but they clearly facilitated it.

I've not posted anything supporting the club, have just given an outline of what's happened and the thinking behind it. I think they have misjudged the situation as I think the furore had they stopped the visit would have been less than has been the case and would have been widely supported by fans.
They could easily have allowed him to visit but declined the use of the ground for PR purposes. A simple statement saying ITFC welcome supporters of all political persuasions but we don't wish to show support for any one party would have been perfectly suitable.
The whole thing makes you feel sick, seeing Farage with a Town shirt, at the press podium. But to insinuate we're a part of this is disgusting. The club will have to make a statement, clearly, and ASAP.

But you are the only word from the club on this, officially or off-the-record and so that is holding weight.

You were saying?
They certainly shouldn't have been allowed to do any of that if they were keen to keep the noise from it down, although I would guess other corporate groups similarly bring media teams. However, the point remains the same, there was no official invite, it wasn't an official visit to the club in the sense that other dignitories have been invited to the club and there were no meetings with Mark Ashton etc.

With all due respect Phil, if ever the “independent Ipswich Town” tag on your logo was important, it is now.
At the least I think you could publish an editorial which reflects the vast majority of your users, even if you are reluctant to put over your own view, which I would imagine is also one of disgust.
I have put over my own view. I wouldn't have let them in full stop.

It very much feels like propaganda on behalf of the club and attempting to diffuse tension, when many on here feel the club should be held accountable. It also just feels like a lie.

That answer just skirts around all the actual questions.
No "official" involvement, tells us nothing about unofficial involvement, cooperation, assistance, agreement to use images etc etc.

Whoever their PR person or agency is needs removing from their role too, the silence is deafening and tells you everything about their crisis communications process or lack of.

Invite is not the same as involvement though.
Mark Ashton is not the entirety of the club.
Again, I think that's misconstruing what was meant. The point I was making was that it wasn't an official invite, they didn't stage an event or hold any meetings with the club hierachy. Nothing beyond that.

But do you not think that an editorial which reflects the majority of your users views would carry some weight?
edit. The first seven or eight threads are about the Farage visit. It has overwhelmed the board and I think it would be beneficial to come out with something.

There was clearly some cooperation simply to allow the tour to take place and the filming etc. Obviously, I think that was a terrible idea and shouldn't have been allowed to happen.

Doesnt look like AI. The shirts are all different and the writing on them is not gobbledigook as one would expect if they were AI generated impressions of what a shirt should look like.
Doesn't look like it to me either, I don't see any of the obvious signs such as flickering of background objects to suggest it is.
That's not to say it isn't, it's a compressed video which makes it hard to tell, but it doesn't look like it at a glance.

I don't write editorials in the news section, never have done. I've always made my position clear on issues on here.

Then would you allow somebody far more eloquent than I to write something down and put it on the news section, if you believe it is a fair representation of the majority view.?
With the international break and very little ITFC news this will continue to dominate the board. I've expressed my feeling both on here and social media so I don't see much point to me adding anything else to these threads.
It may return the board to some normality with a united* voice being heard.
*I appreciate that there are some Reform voters/supporter on the board. And thy have every right to cast their vote however they may chose.
