| Does anyone else find the gifted shirts the worst thing about all this? 09:00 - Mar 27 with 1069 views | rkc123 | I made this point in another thread yesterday, so sorry for repeating it, but I just wanted to gauge if other people had the same reaction to the shirts I did. Gifting the shirts with 'Farage 10' printed on them to me takes this to another level where it is an actual endorsement of him, from the post Reform put out they obviously took that as 'Farage for number 10', and I think that was the intention, I don't see why else we print that number on the shirts? It's like the club (I assume Ashton) are actually giving their backing to him, which is so much worse than I even considered this could be at the start of the week. | | | | |

Thr shirts combined with everything else, I totally agree can not be considered apolitical. It's the sort of disingenuous nonsense I've come to expect from Reform and their ilk.

I agree, but when this all started even in my most pesimistic view of the situation I didn't actually consider a way in which the club would be publicly showing support for Reform and Farage.

| Does anyone else find the gifted shirts the worst thing about all this? on 09:16 - Mar 27 with 830 views | _CliveBaker_ | No not really. Just one of a string of mistakes. The first was (allegedly) contacting him, the 2nd inviting him, 3rd letting him in, 4th letting him and his team create the content they did, 5th dine him, 6th gift him shirts, 7th limp response and lies to the fans. That bit is probably the worst, but none of it is acceptable. | | | |
| Does anyone else find the gifted shirts the worst thing about all this? on 09:18 - Mar 27 with 812 views | Churchman | No. The worst thing is the football club getting anywhere near politicians of any flavour. I don’t care whether it’s Farage, Starmer, Davey or Vlad the Impaler. Football is not for politics. We have to suffer enough of those frauds in our daily lives. Football is a chance to escape for a few hours and an interest at other times. An interesting article: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/fo Clubs and the authorities have to engage to an extent, but if it was down to me it’d be purely on a professional level, no promotion using clubs and certainly no free stuff. It sickens me when I see these people at Wimbledon you name it. If the buy a ticket or are a member as Major is at Lords as a private individual, fine. But cosying up to politicians and parties. Not fine. I know this is naive but it’s how I see it. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

| Does anyone else find the gifted shirts the worst thing about all this? on 09:44 - Mar 27 with 653 views | Swansea_Blue | I both disappointed with the association with Farage and seeing us all over his social media AND being lied to by Ashton. The lying is probably the bigger trust issue for me personally, but all parts of it are a sh*tshow. Unlike many, I wouldn’t care too much if another politician had a visit, as long as they didn’t use us for their own gain. If say Steph Peacock turned up to talk about football issues with Ashton and as part of that we offered lunch and they had a photoshoot, that would be absolutely fine by me. Similarly schmoozing the local MP (of whatever party) to build relationships would also be fine by me, because it’s relevant and we have to engage with relevant politicians. | |

| Does anyone else find the gifted shirts the worst thing about all this? on 10:40 - Mar 27 with 492 views | AlpineBlue | I am sometimes a bit slow on the uptake, but I initially thought the gifting of the shirts was pretty disgraceful. Then I read a post yesterday that put the number 10 and "Number 10" together. I mean f****** hell. That blows the "we're apolitical" defence completely out of the water. To me this proves that Ashton knowingly used our club and its sponsors and history to promote his own political beliefs. He then told bare-faced lies to staff and to the local press. The man can have no future in football, nevermind at this club. He can follow in the footsteps of Rupert Lowe. | | | |

Last August, Reform "created" a football club called Reform FC and produced football shirts in their colours with 10 on the back for Farage representing No. 10 Downing Street. If Ashton wasn't aware of this, he is a fool. https://reformfc.com/

To be pedantic (and in no way defending anything that went on), what we 'know' is that the Athletic claim 6 shirts were gifted to Farage. I suspect some of these 'mistruths' the club referred to are related to things like this. It's likely to be a play on words to try and wriggle out of some of these catastrophic mistakes. Ashton or the club really need to come clean on their version of events, if the are claiming 'mistruths and falsehoods'. I doubt they will though, as any clarifications could turn out to be subtle variations on what has been reported, and not make them look any better.
| Does anyone else find the gifted shirts the worst thing about all this? on 13:25 - Mar 27 with 124 views | NBVJohn | The Farage 10 shirts are awful. Their use in a posed, contrived and apparently professionally taken photo in the home dressing room in a shot that includes the names of several players absolutely horrifies me. Even if the club had no idea who booked the tour, once they saw who was there they could and should have stopped that from happening. Unforgivable and shameful. | | | |
