Would everybody start Nunez on Sat? 13:03 - Apr 7 with 4674 viewsnrb1985

I just wonder given the obvious circus that’s going to surround him whether KM may be tempted to bench him.

Ferguson (Alex not Bobby) used to do that quite often. There were a few ocassions where both Neville and Rooney were dropped for games at Anfield.

Neville once said he was told not to even go and warm up there through fear of inciting the crowd and stirring up the atmosphere.

Could take the wind out of their sails a bit if they see he isn’t on the team sheet.

Is he fit though? Didn’t look that fit on Monday to me.

True. Was surprised he started after his absence, although equally that showed confidence he's over his injury. But another reason for thinking Mehmeti might be pencilled in for Saturday.

Not not a Nunez fan, but don't think he's enough of a threat as a number 10, a role from which we need goals and under KMc have usually had them, and particularly with number nine not being an area where we score particularly frquently. That Mehmeti has already outscored Nunez from open play since his move illustrates the point.

Ideally, Nunez would be playing deeper in the role he was actually bought for.

Well Mehmeti has only scored 1 goal playing the 10 and that was vs Wrexham. I wouldn't say he has particularly looked a goal threat when he plays central.

His best game was vs Swansea when he played wide left and I dont see him dropping Jack Clarke.

Maybe it is just me but I don't think that 10 role suits Mehmeti at all.

He's not really had the chance to play regularly there, has he? I don't think he has enough about him in an attacking sense to play as the number 10. As SomethingBlue says elsewhere in the thread, he's more of a half-10 than a 10. It didn't come as a surprise that number 10 was an area where Kieran looked to add in January.

While I understand that school of thought, there must also be one that recognises we're a better side with Nunez in it. I think he knits us together and we look a more cohesive attacking threat with him. He has the quality to operate a bit deeper and unpick sides that Mehmeti hasn't quite shown in the same way for me. Anis is a good ball carrier, but Nunez ability to find space, and drop in to that #8 position, with the vision and execution is quite unique in our attacking options.

Saturday was a good example, it was Nunez who put McAteer through for the chance he put over, it was also his outside boot ball to Clarke that started the move for McAteer's winner.

I like them both, I just think Nunez has a bit more guile about him personally. Its a good problem to have though, as is Clarke or Billy Jean on the left.

Nunez has the tools to unlock a defence. Mehmeti is more of a ball carrier.

I think on Saturday we need to unlock to win the match

I can see that to some degree, but on Saturday I think Mehmeti's more forward outlook meant we were playing further up the field and looking more dangerous once he came on (up to half-time, he like everyone else seemed to drift in the second half) and Nunez was playing in the deeper role by the time of the goals. He certainly has guile but I don't think his attributes are ideally what Kieran wants from a number 10 and what best suits the team overall.

Probably some sort of illicit sexual encounter.

is either Hammers knows piss all about footy, or that Nunez shagged his hound. Or he fancies Mehmetti.

Definitely an argument that he's better off the left, being a ball carrier. I think he was signed because we knew Philogene would be out for a while, it was an added bonus he could play centrally.

When was Rooney ever dropped for a game at Anfield???
Anyway, Nunez has to play, he’s our best 10 by far.

McKenna likes to 'quieten' the crowd when playing away from home, having Nunez start won't help.

If we're 0-0 after 60 mins and Norwich see Nunez come on, if I were them i'd be thing "ffs, ex player always score against us"

I'm of the opinion things seem to be more controlled and continuous when Nunez plays in the 10. He might not have the goals, but he's certainly contributed. He's up there with chances created and whilst not a goal score, he's definitely a threat in terms of getting shots off.

Don't have access to the stats anymore to look deeper into this but head says we're better with him in the team.

I'm thinking we could be underdogs with Norwich's form and them being at home.... so might it be to be our advantage to stir things up and, also, level things up by using Nunez as added spice.

Let's not kid ourselves..... their form is incredible. I quite like the idea of him being a wind up merchant and putting them off their stride. Odd that it might seem, but I think we might need to act tbe underdog and get under their skin.

Actually it isn't at home which is the only relevant thing here. Last 5 home games, won 3, lost to Birmingham and drew with Portsmouth. Not anything to install fear and dread. Hope that reduces the panic even a little bit!
