We are playing for a much greater prize than a faint hope of playoffs BUT the Easter results went so well we literally know a win at Pompey will see us take the field against Boro second regardless. We’ve already beat them this season, so that’s off our back as well, whereas for Norwich this is it, the only game left in their season with something big on the line.
They have to win to have any outside shot of playoffs, have to win to stop us being unbeaten against them this season and have to avoid defeat to stop us doing the double. A draw isn’t too bad for us and a win is dreamland. A draw is a bit of meh for them really.
I see it as an everything to gain situation and a loss as horrible as it would be, wouldn’t on it own be be a kill shot for promotion. Of course the stakes are high but it’s not win or bust for us either (which it really should been if not for Boro’s form). [Post edited 10 Apr 3:44]

A few years ago it was them at the top of the table and us with nothing to play for, they beat us with all that “pressure”.
It is time for us to stop looking at it as a bad thing as look at it as we have something to fight for because we over the season consistently better than them.

Man for man we are better than them. But it's up to these players to perform. We didn't see it against Brum. A great team goal from McAteer. But we haven't seen many performances that include both halves.
Nobody expects us to have all the play all the time, but this habit of dropping off second half, or not starting the first half mustn't happen. We don't want to be looking at being a couple of goals down at half time.

I can understand you still being disenchanted with it all, but denying yourself watching an EA derby - and an away one, so you could watch without any money going to the club if you so wished - seems a bit extreme to me. McKenna and the players haven't done anything wrong.

cant agree, pressure is all on us. but we have got to embrace it, as it will be that way in most of the games left as the nature of what we are fighting for.
it is a free hit for them, from where they were in the season to now have a outside chance of play offs is a bonus.
we just have to stand up to everything the position we are in brings , reach the levels of cov away we will have a very strong chance of winning.
i can see them being happy to sit in and counter, which i think we look susceptible to so thats a worry but as i said above reach the level of cov away we should have enough. |

I think they will be hugely up for it, playing with freedom and in our faces. I am interested to see how we cope with a team that doesn't let us take the game to them and tbh I am a little worried. A good test before Southampton who will do the same too. |

They have been playing with total freedom and without pressure more or less the day Clement walked through the door and that momentum has snowballed since then.

Not looking at it as a bad thing, it’s nice to go there with us in the hunt for promotion, the stakes are huge it’s just I don’t quite buy the narrative that it’s all on us because contextually it’s not must win and it really should have been. | |

Weirdly, despite it being a must win for Scum more than it is for us, I do think there is more pressure on us. The game is must win for them because they can't make the play-offs without winning every game, but I think it's still a long shot if they pick up maximum points. Plus Clement has a free hit this year because of Agent Manning so I don't think there is expectation on their end.
Meanwhile, we might not NEED to win, put our promotion prospects are far more tangible than their Play-off hopes, so a greater level of expectation. I think they can shrug off any possible impact on the league, we can't do that as easily.

As I have commented on the news article thread itself, the only way the pressure is all on us is because they have accepted the play offs are out of reach. That is reasonable from the position they are in and easy for him to do because he can say there was far too much to do when he took over (which is true - they were genuinely in a relegation battle then).
However, it is far from a must-win match for us. We will finish second if we lose two matches and still match the best of the rest's record. |  |

The last couple of away derbys have felt less pressured because we've been going for a greater prize. For us us it's more about the bigger picture, keeping it in our own hands, which regardless of the results this weekend they still will be.
Not too long ago though beating them was the only thing we'd got left, which felt much more pressured. I'd argue there's more pressure on them to do something, especially after we've won the game earlier in the season.
That said, they do seem to be playing with greater freedom lately and to great effect. I'd be pleased with a draw. | |
