"The penalty was a joke", "it was a pure dive" 16:00 - Apr 11 with 1696 viewsGeoffSentence

That was from Clement. You don't often hear a manager being quite so blunt. Incidently that view was contrary to the commentary on their own official highlights where they did feel that Taylor was caught. Is Clement likely to get in any sort of trouble for his forthright comments?

A marginal decision, I have seen them given. Was quite wild rom their defender.

They had 80 mins to get back into the game and created little.

I see he also said "this was a player trying to cheat"

I know we have all felt like that as fans from time to time, (Yes Grant Holt, that was how we felt), but for a manager to say this is a bit overboard, particularly as he is wrong.

I mean, it's emphatically not a dive, Taylor gets kicked in the chest in the penalty box. Whether their defender could see Taylor coming or not is more to the point. I'd have felt a little hard done by if it was us, but we've had far worse go against us, just in the last few weeks. 50/50 for me.

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

I agree. I think it was a dive. I’ve watched it twenty times
And I can’t see any contact. I’d be pretty annoyed if it happened to us. Which it will, so I guess enjoy it.

I don't think VAR would overturn that either.

That's not a thing he should be saying, and maybe is worthy of further punishment, but doesn't really matter - Norwich's season is over, and they can't do us any more favours as they don't play anyone of note over the rest of the season.

The bloke has done well since he joined them. Maybe he'll get poached by a bigger club like Birmingham or Wrexham?

If it's blatant enough why can't a manager say it?

I don't think this is all that blatant, so it's overboard here. Taylor makes the most of it but I'm not surprised he goes to ground when he sees the boot flying towards his chin/face.

He'll be looking for another job before Christmas next season, he always starts well, then things turn and he blames anyone but himself.

Tayls nipped in front of him and was caught with a wild swing. There wasn’t much force in the contact, but it was a clear foul imo.

Nuñez should have gone though for his third foul. That was naughty and stupid. McLean could easily have gone on another day. I thought the ref struggled to control the game, so there’s some justification for feeling aggrieved. The players didn’t help though - a lot of stupid fouls and dives out there from all of them.

Yeah a pet peeve is football fans complaining about things they’d support if their team / manager said it. I know that’s most things but still. There was nothing that bad in his comments. We got a proper rub of the green today

Guess you didn't see the Leicester and Stoke games then?

It was soft, but this & the Brum disallowed goal last week have evened things out for me.

I actually think he's trying to avoid getting booted in the chest.

A player having to take evasive action in order to avoid a quite uncomfortable outcome doesn't mean its not a penalty.

There is a difference between a dive and taking evasive action to avoid getting kicked in the head. And a foul can be given if a reckless or dangerous action by an opposition player causes the player on the ball to take evasive action.

Here is how I see it:

Taylor nipped in from his blindside and nicked the ball ahead of the swinging boot of the Norwich player.

The Norwich player didn't see him coming, and so there is no intent. Taylor would have been at risk of injury if he hadn't taken evasive action. So, regardless of whether there is contact or not, the actions of the Norwich player impede Taylor, but there was no intent.

Conclusion: a direct free kick (in this case a penalty as in the penalty area) but no yellow card.

He definitely got a yellow.

Stupid comments about it being a must win for Ipswich before the game, and now this.

Their player caught Taylor's arm with a kick. Minimal contact but can see why ref gave it even though it's very harsh.

Blatant dive? Bloke's a massive bell.

I thought the ref went early with the yellow cards, for both sides.

Agree no intent, but to me it’s as clear as day from the replay that their player’s knee caught Taylor clean on the point of his chin and could have knocked him right out. Did nobody see Taylor’s head being jerked right back? You couldn’t fake that, nor would anyone in their right minds even try to, as it could result in a serious neck injury.

As debatable as it was the ref called this right. A similar challenge anywhere else on the pitch the ref gives a free kick. As it happens to be in the box it’s a pen. Lovely stuff. Win some lose some.
