Talking about Ipswich being a bigger club than Bournemouth.

He seems to have lost a hell of a lot of weight. Does anyone know if it's health related or something he has done himself? Hope he is ok.

I saw a headline stating he had lost weight after relatives believed he had died. The implication I drew was that it was a change in lifestyle. I hope it is.

He's stopped drinking so much in the Marquis, no doubt lost a few pounds and saved a few pounds as well.

In terms of history and fan base every club in the Premier League AND current Championship is bigger than Bournemouth. The only exception is possibly Oxford.
They are the equivalent of 1980s Wimbledon if 1980s Wimbledon played really good football.

They're basically Reading, history-wise.

Unfortunately the only people who care about what club won what is the fans of that particular club.

Players only care about being in the Premier League and if Spurs go down a club like Bournemouth will be more attractive an option than them.

The entire ‘big club thing’ is an argument that disappeared when Sky started to broadcast football.

Big club = can buy Premier League quality players

AFCB - big club
ITFC - minnow

All these " big club " arguments and disagreements that spring up quite regularly, ignore one rather important thing. There are absolutely no definitive " rules " as to what exactly one is. Personally I find it term that's irrelevant. Some clubs are " big clubs " in their own minds of course.

Fan base, obviously Ipswich.
Historically, obviously Ipswich.
Last 10 years, obviously Bournemouth.
Just depends how far back you wish to look.

I love that analogy. There was a lot to admire about Wimbledon and the way they gave the big boys a bloody nose. However, Bournemouth have done that (to a lesser extent) whilst playing really good football.

Both clubs have been run excellently to bring that success. It all went wrong rather quickly for Wimbledon and it easily could sometime for Bournemouth too. They don't have the foundations that the bigger clubs have.

For now, I am glad they are doing so well. It makes me believe there is the potential for competition outside the traditional big clubs.

Football isn’t about history or even match day revenue anymore.

Bournemouth have some of the biggest revenue, and best talent ID, and best succession planning in world football…, we are light years away form them in all those dynamics.

Sure we have great support, a great catchment, and trophies decades old.

They have huge revenue, some of the best talent ID I’ve ever seen, and an ability OFF the pitch which is so elite he gets the best outcomes on it.

They built a club around ideas. That talent if is crucial, that you can sell talent to Liverpool, Man City, Real Madrid. And THRIVE.

We built club around Mark. The idea that he needs to do everything and have full control over areas where he’s not elite, like talent ID, I suspect even McKenna was a young coach easier to control, and he swam the channel with what a good coach (at the level) he was and is.

They built a club. We built an ego.

It’s not even a debate. They aren’t lucky, it’s sustained, long lasting, real, not a fluke, not transitory.

Jesus. I watched their first game of the season. Sold Kirkez for £60 million - Truffet is better!!

They sign WORLD CLASS players for £15 million a go, Jimenez, Krupi, Scott, the new Brazilian guy who looks sensational.

They sell world class talent and improve!!

Great coaching, great talent Id, done for years.

We’ve been building for 5 years and spent more in Greaves, Ogbenne, McAteer, unfair to single them out, as there’s a dozen more examples!!

And this is YEAR FIVE of us pretending 36 year ‘not elite’ Mark Ashton just needs more time!!!

When has he ever been at that level in 36 years???
It’s not time. He isn’t good enough.

We can’t even be mentioned in the same breath as them.., if ‘big’ equates to success in and off the pitch.

Trophies and crowds are the only metrics we compare - and we can’t keep dining out on Bobby being brilliant 40 years ago!!!

Step one. Accept what’s real. Then maybe we can start getting the right bums of seats.

I have little faith in the owners. They wanted what was easiest…, and that was giving Mark the keys to the castle, worked great when we had more resources in league one, now we ARE measured against Brentford’s, Bournemouth’s, Brightons.

We have the potential to be bigger than them all combined!!!!

But we’re light years away. New Chair, new CEO, and a whole new talent ID programme, after five years. We aren’t a big club. We’re as big as Mark Ashton. We are now the sum of what he alone can achieve. His ego ensured that.

That needs to change. We have (had) the resources for that change. We just need the passion and desire to breath life into it. And the self awareness to see it.

He looks a lot more healthy now, good for him however he's done it.

But he's right, even if you don't go on history like he did - they average 11,000 fans - that's league 1 level!!

Bigger Ipswich, better Bournemouth (as we stand today).

Bournemouth are not a bigger football club than Ipswich, but I don’t carry huge weight in being a ‘big’ club anyway, always found it a bit of pointless debate, doesn’t win you football matches.

Yeah I was going to post this almost word for word

Ipswich are a much bigger club but if you're choosing between joining Muff or Ipswich as a player or manager it's a no brainer to join the Cherries.

You have to be the size of a Man Utd or dare I say it a Spurs to make somebody choose you over a team in a higher division and Ipswich big club as they are, are clearly not of that ilk.

If McKenna went to their soulless little garden shed of a stadium I’d be livid. Palace and Brighton I could understand, not Bournemouth.
