Yeah that’s what happens when you get an appointment terribly wrong in the summer then get it massively right. This is what a decent year 1 parachute team should be doing to a crap league.

And we’re doing it too, albeit in a less exciting and less spectacular way.

Have you watched them today? Hard to say they deserved it given the performance over the entire game.

Sadly it's not what you deserve it's what you get. They win regardless, we don't.
As I said after the Norwich game. No good beating the Budgies then losing against Pompey and that's exactly what we did.
At the end of the day whoever you play, whoever you beat it's still only three points and whoever you lose to it's NUL POINTS as they say on Eurovision.

If they're foolish enough to give Ipswich a goal head start (as they have done in two of their last three games), Southampton will face a lot more trouble than they're bargaining for.

Since 1st September, in the League, of the 21 matches where Ipswich scored first, all but one of those were wins, the only exception being Millwall, with whom we drew. Over the whole season, we have never lost after scoring first (W20 D3 L0).

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Don't disagree with that, of course. But suggesting that the Saints are unstoppable doesn't recognise that today's performance far from guaranteed the result they got.

What precisely is your point?

Season:
Town PPG 1.829
Saints PPG 1.744

Since Eckert appointed
Town PPG 2.043
Saints PPG 2.040

Looks like two parachute payment teams very evenly matched, with Town having the edge.

That, as you well know, was not what I was responding to.

But since you ask, if we take points at the same rate as the last 15 games, we finish on 84/85 points which in most likelihood gets 2nd.

Yet we’re still ahead of them even though we’ve played two games less. You’d think we’re 5 points behind them the way some people are going on.

it's been said before - if they win all their remaining games then they absolutely deserve to be promoted. 7 wins on the trot so far - would be absolutely ridiculous form to go on to win 10. Good on em if they do it. I doubt they will though.

If we draw or beat them (I really cant see us doing the latter) we will go up.

We could lose to them and still go up even if they win all their remaining games. We’ve got a potential 6 points buffer over team that’s in our own hands. I’d rather have the point than the games in hand though. We got to be strong favourites from the position we’re in. Obviously we’ve still got to do it and not have too many more brainfarts.

We have to get the same points total in the next 5 games as we got in the last 5 games (which was a solid but not particularly spectacular run of results) and we're up, regardless of what anyone else does, end of.

That's not me saying we're definitely going to do it, it's just me saying that for all the anxiety about what others - especially Southampton - are doing, we have a perfectly achievable target in the next 5 games.

This is the key point many are missing. We’ve been very consistent for much of the season, and in particular since the transfer window closed. We’ve not had any spectacular runs, unlike Coventry and Middlesborough in the first half of the season, or Southampton for the second half. We’ve just kept at the level needed to be challenging for top 2.

There’s no certainty that we get 2nd, but if we continue at the same level of consistent points gained for the final 5 games, we will. Fair to say with only 5 games remaining, there’s little room for error.

No one is missing it. Just some after tuesday are finding it hard to see us achieving it.

For me if we had 1 more home game In-between boro and qpr Id feel maybe a bit more positive. But the relentless of 7 games game in a month, many away games and it appears we have a strong starting 11 but when its rotated were not sure what town we are gonna get.

Just natural tho. Every one is desperate for us to go back up. After the high of Norwich came a really bad pompy and that was one of the games in hand.

Had we won that or even drawn it today would feel a bit different I think to many. Its kist the way we went about tuesday is really difficult to budge. I do think a loss v nodge then a win v pompy would actually have made most quite relaxed still.

When we last got promoted. We struggled v those around us but bottom 10 sides home and away were our bread a butter. It hasnt been this season and we go into the finsl weeks playing 2 more of them away and 1 of them at home. With southamton thrown in.

As weve seen points wise this season since summer window closed has been fine. But its actually felt like a really difficult season.

I'm strongly of the opinion that there are number of fifth columnists present who seem to take great joy in popping up and trying to sow discontent at every suitable opportunity. Some are subtle, others not so much. Names which are rarely to be seen after a win. C'est la guerre.

Is it natural to create narratives that just aren’t true though? That’s what some are doing - and then they just go very quiet when the errors in there suppositions are pointed out.

I was gutted on Tuesday after the game - a win would have put us in an immensely strong position, rather than introduce risk. I’m not a revisionist though, which is precisely what some are demonstrating with their posts.

Fifth columnists seems a good way of describing them. Otherwise I simply can't understand their motivation or what they want to achieve.

8 wins in a row inc v Arsenal, that run will very likely be broken v Man City and then they will go again. However, should City win today maybe they may rest players in cup and go for league?
