I just don’t get the constant we are not good enough narrative. Just F-off for a week and come back in August if we are back in the Prem and wax on again about Man City being better than us and tactically we are bla bla bla. We are in a fantastic position which every other chasing team would swap a leg for. I just don’t get it. It’s like you don’t want us to go up. Or if you do some fantasy version with Paul Mariner up front doing it. Get a grip and support One more week just be positive. Please

I think this is the first season in a long time where I just want it over and done with, despite having plenty to play for and sitting in a good place.

They didn't. We're in a fantastic positon and if we can't win one of the next two then that's on us.

We are in a great position, our destiny is in our own hands, but there is a big but... Two years ago I had faith in the team, maybe (foolishly with hindsight) believing that they could make a decent fist of it at the higher level. This time around I look at tour squad and worry...

But this week of all weeks who cares. Just support I dint care if anyone’s worried about August at the moment. It’s the last week of April and we have a job to do. I’m not fretting over my future wife I’ve not yet met if she’s going to leave me. Get there. Try hard Be supported then too.

So 5 year plans are a waste of time then? I'm pleased you are not involved in running the club then.

That's a bit of a stretch on what he said. Let's deal with the end of this season first. Plenty of time to plan for next season.

That's where you're going wrong. You're not going to find future wife and keep her if you focus on your results and not your performance. You need to get your performance right first and then good things will follow

Whatever happens though, McKenna will know that this summer will need some pretty non-negotiable work in the transfer market.

Disagree. At the start of the season and especially the end, it’s about results. It doesn’t matter if you scratch, bite, scramble to the top of the heap. It’s what good teams do. I’ve seen several references to the 23/24 season. In April 24, we had that great night v Saints. They were better than us but grit and determination got us that spectacular winner. We then had a dismal result and performance v our East Anglian friends, two scrambled draws v Watford and M’boro. We could easily have lost both games but grabbed two vital points. Then a rock n roll draw at a good Hull side. In May we finished it. That’s how it was. It wasn’t all rapier football. It was typical Championship end of season rough and tumble football. The difference was that we were able to do the ugly side in a way Burley’s lovely sides were never able to do. Or Royle’s side come to that. Both managers’ teams played great - but not always. Performances are for the meat of the season. Week in, week out. First six, last six - points, no matter how.

We're behind the 8 ball on recruitment though. Ashtons line last summer was that we were recruiting with a view to the Premier League. That hasn't worked. We will need a new side next season to have a chance of competing, so it feels like being back at square one on recruitment rather.

Yep, but as it's very likely that a large percentage of the players who may get us to the PL will only have bit parts to play there, or none at all as they won't be here, let's at least give them the chance to taste a bit of glory and to thank them for their efforts. I totally agree with many who have voiced opinions about the quality ( or rather lack of it ) of the Championship this season. But whatever the quality it is never less than a slog, and if we have to go up by being better " sloggers " than all but one, then so be it.

Thanks of the business lesson. I'll make sure to remember that when I get to the final of the Apprentice. Never said anything about the longer term plan in my post. I'm talking about supporting us through this short period of THIS week to enable that long term plan to grow and stabilise. Thats how it happens. Don't get through this week well it is a slower step towards that future plan as play-offs is a riskier route towards that near-future plan. You probably have Plan A and Plan B jotted down in an email ready to send in to the board - thats great. In the meantime I was just asking some people to recognise our current week is in better shape against everyone else's 5 year plan at the moment - probably including Coventry's who will be going through a similar change next year that we did last yea on the step up. Think we can all agree on wanting to get promoted.

Already married to be fair, I was just making the point that it isn't worth worrying about how the squad will look next year this week. It isn't this weeks priority. Monday 3rd May hopefully we are up and someone locks the agents in the room, selling and buying season begins and we make a better stab at the Prem than last time.

The reality is, this squad as a collective is absolutely long way away from competing in the PL.

Nobody sits in the Championship with an oven ready premier league side. Sunderland have proved what recruitment is needed We got it wrong last time. I do hope we have invested in recruitment especially in the abroad market. Otherwise yes like any other promoted side we will struggle. That really isn’t on the current squad though.

All that relegation season taught me was that the championship simply doesn't prepare any club for the premier league. Even Sunderland this season had absolutely nothing to do with what they achieved or didn't in the championship. All that matters is promotion. Then, absolutely nobody knows. I'd argue we're a rung up the ladder from last time with squad depth, but it'll be down to who we get in and that's an absolute lottery.
| Actually don’t know what is wrong with way too many people on here on 08:24 - Apr 26 with 226 views | Blue_Heath | I'm normally a moaner, bedwetter or whatever term you care to throw at me but yes yesterday wasn't the best but not the worst, that said I travelled up to WBA with the mindset a point would be great, we got that so happy days. Going to the Vine heightened my mood too lol. If I am honest I only want to go up for the money, whilst this season hasn't been a vintage one potentially winning one game at home next season isn't something I'm hugely looking forward to. I'd rather see us beat Charlton 2-1 than lose at home 2-0 Liverpool. That said I am enjoying the moment, really hope we get something on Tuesday or worst case a one goal defeat and hopefully party time at home to QPR. If we get to the prem again I'll worry about that next season. | |
