| Weirdest season ever - fans reaction 17:13 - Apr 25 with 2512 views | waveneyblue | As i said earlier, reading some of the comments on here, you would honestly think weve just lost 3 on the bounce and could possibly not make the playoffs. Whilst I fully get that we have thrown in the odd terrible performance and more often a really poor half, however we are now 3 points away from returning to the Premier League at first time of asking. All I can think of are the umpteen seasons in the Championship, where a play off push was fanciful let alone automatic promotion. Again I get that was then and this is now, but some of the comments are ludicrous for where we find ourselves. Maybe I am a "happy clapper" (although Im still yet to read a sensible definition of what that is), have low standards and easily pleased. But to me, in my 40 odd years of religiously following town, things have never been better. Funny ole game isn't it. | | | | |
| Weirdest season ever - fans reaction on 17:18 - Apr 25 with 2073 views | Illinoisblue | It’s been a season shaped by two main factors: the weight of expectation, and Coventry’s blistering start which has meant we’ve been playing catch up literally all season. It’s been weird; missed so so many good chances (but are third highest scorers), given away so many daft goals (but have second best defence). We’ve spent a lot of money but a lot of that investment (egeli, Akpom, Cajuste, mostly warm the bench. Fk it, let’s win Tuesday and look forward. COYB | |

Good summary to be fair. Get the reasons, but the criticism has been crazy
| Weirdest season ever - fans reaction on 17:23 - Apr 25 with 2018 views | blueislander | I haven’t read all the posts since the end of the game,, but I haven’t seen any that acknowledge how well West Brom played particularly in the first half. I would suggest that any Championship team would have struggled to make an impression. | | | |

Maybe unfair, but I guess I thought we'd have another season like 2022/23, albeit at a higher level. Struggling to adjust for the first half of the season, but something clicks mid to late February and we just take off, beating all before us. But the click has never come. In recent games we look as disjointed as we did before Christmas (post shaky start). Expectation plays a huge part in the response.

Have we signed Akron and Cajuste permanently? What was the investment/fee? I thought they were on loan.

We have obligations on both if we go up, as far as I know. The fees are about £10m total. I'm sure we could get out of it with some sort of deal.

| Weirdest season ever - fans reaction on 17:41 - Apr 25 with 1774 views | FrimleyBlue | Things can change quickly in football Not going up this season when promotion has opened itself up to us after a difficult start could mean that we go into next season looking to get promoted from a more difficult league that this season. Thats not saying this season is poor its more that next season looks crazy at the moment. If we had the same 'owners' that took the club on. I personally would feel ok if it took a few years to get back up. However with alot of investors now involved and how that can possibly negatively effect us the longer promotion took, thats why I personally have the desperation to go up this season. Youve then got the amount of funds we have spent and the level of performances webe put in. Results are whats important so we cant bemoan things to much. But when discussing the actual performance levels of the side its actually been poor in many fixtures this season. There havent been many games weve comfortably seen the game through. Plus some of the thoughts of others I imagine are based on plsyers coming in and replacing some of their favourites. What is more annoying tho is that if ashton and his team actually got us a striker or two this season who were able to convert the 70 odd chances made for them that hirst and azon had.. most worrys etc wouldnt have even been discussed. Today another prime example with two missed chances by azon. But yeah I think theres various different reasons for differing opinions about this season. One thing I dont think anyone disagrees on... as long as we make it.. what ever has happened this season doesnt matter as the end result was how we wanted it to be. | |

Playings Devils advocate- who is the striker we didnt buy. The "striker" in McKennas team, is a very bespoke role and Im not sure that there's loads of options out there. But the flip side is that both Hirst and Azon have missed a lot of chances this season.

Thing is, lots of those flailing and soiling themselves now did the exact same two years ago. Them trying to claim now that they are reacting like this because 'its not the same as the last time' is bull because they acted like cretins then, and are simply hitting repeat this season.
| Weirdest season ever - fans reaction on 18:12 - Apr 25 with 1604 views | Garv | Said after 23/24 that nothing would ever be as good, and this season is proving it. It's all about expectation. The money spent, watching players that disappointed in the PL, it's a combination of everything. Coventry are basically us from 23/24, albeit not newly promoted. We are now a little bit like Leicester from that season, whose fans were often on their team's back. | |

| Weirdest season ever - fans reaction on 18:32 - Apr 25 with 1465 views | Swansea_Blue | It’s not weird at all if you understand the difference between performances and results, which I’m sure people attacking us do, but nonetheless seem to be deliberately conflating the two just to get digs in at people. Those of us moaning today are frustrated with the lacklustre performance, but of course we’re happy promotion is still in our own hands. | |

I appreciate the question but thats not for me or any other town fan to comment on. Its not our job to find these players, there are some paid individuals to do that overseen by a very well paid ceo/chairman whos still heavily involved in the transfer process. They'll rightfully get applauded when they come up with an azor or they put the cash in to get jayden etc. But that also means they do come under the spotlight when glaring errors are made too and going into the season with just azon and hirst was poor and then following up with nothing in january its a terrible effort. In a sport that has thousands of leagues in it to say azon was the best we could do when we spent £20 mill on the longer term Investment in egeli speaks volumes of being happy to use the money but in the striker position they come up incredibly short. If they had been successful with that id dare say wed have been promoted a month ago.

I completely understand the difference thanks and still find it weird. However, I also dont understand the attitude of completely dismissing how the opponents play Middlesboro, Millwall (2nd half), WBA today as 3 examples. Even Portsmouth to a lesser extent. The arrogance that we should turn up and roll everybody over is ridiculous. Football doesn't work like that

I dont think its people disregarding opponents. I dont mention them because my interest is ipswich and how we do. Today first half for example. We played a side we all knew were gonna be difficult, that doesnt mean though that they should have felt imo comfortable playing us which i think they did in that opening period. I do agree that pressing etc can lead to errors thats a given but its some of the unforced errors that were driving me mad today and also the poor movement off the ball. For sure brom were well organised but even the commentator picked up at times how static our players were. Its no wonder the likes of taylor couldn't pick any passes as they had no one to pass to.

Happy to agree to disagree mate. This is the twtd ipswich town forum and my posts are about ipswich and our performance. Its perfectly acceptable to discuss our errors without the need to talk about the opponents imo. If I was writing on socials about the game to a non town audience then id be more inclined to mention the opponents more.

Not what I said was it? I'm as annoyed as anyone that we didn't find that striker, but let's not try and make out it's as easy as you're suggesting by claiming there's thousands of leagues to pick from.
