Safe to assume Matusiwa is carrying an injury 22:01 - Apr 28 with 1204 viewsIllinoisblue

Or just knackered? Looks a shadow of the player we once knew

Not been the same since the dead leg.

However...he's still a mile ahead of anyone else.

Said it earlier. Was running through sand for their second. Is a half fit Matusiwa our best option?

He has probably played more 90 minutes than the rest of the outfield squad. I'd say he is, understandably, knackered, to quote the medical terminology.

We’ve hammered him and then he’s been whacked black and blue. He’s a unit but he’s not a robot. Still our best option though even at 90%

He played well in general today, cherry picking that incident where the entire midfield wasn't there isn't great. I agree he was out of position and couldn't get back though.

And he was clearly the best option given Taylor was injured. I think he'll have to go one more time Saturday.

Hasn’t O’Shea played every minute in the league?

I think Matusiwa is a combination of slight injury and knackered, their second goal came from him being caught out of position and not being able to recover leaving a huge hole in the middle.

Internationals, too, for O’Shea. Absolute warrior.

I think so, and O'Shea still looks fresh as a daisy, which just illustrates what a great player he is.

Matu has been a rock in a more demanding role as far as twisting and turning goes.

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

It’s simply pointing out that the hole he would usually fill was not filled. He has been immense and it’s noticeable when he is understandably knackered and not 100% fit. That is huge credit to him and the standard he has set.

You can see when he is going to get caught on the ball. I would play him first half Saturday if fit then get fresh legs on.

Furlong was the bigger culprit for me, him needlessly pressing high left us 4 vs 4 at the back (including Azor).

If Furlong holds station, their LB doesn't get the chance to create the goal IMO.

Probably true. I'm not sure about distance covered stats for DM vs CB, but also, it's Azor's first season on the Championship and Dara is very comfortable at this level. I'd say Azor has had a great.first season.

He gave the ball away a few times and put us under pressure. We had a free kick on the edge of our box and he played a tired pass straight to a Saints attacker.

When Cajuste came on it was literally seconds after another tired miss pass and I couldn’t believe that it wasn’t a swap for Matusiwa. Nonsuprisenhe came off after he was out paced for their second.

He’s been our second best player all season. But we’ve flogged him and it’s showing.

100%. He’s been immense playing in a 46 match league season in a midfield role.

The fact he went how ever many games it was on 9 yellow cards to avoid a 2 match ban should never be forgotten, the screamer vs Hull and all those tackles etc.

Best bit of business of the summer.

I don't think he gave it away more than others.

He's tired but he's still the best option by far in my view. That might be a criticism of our CM options but I think it's the truth.

I love him and he is player of the season in my eyes but I thought he had a really poor night.

Got caught out in possession, didnt have his usual energy and bite in the press and is obviously running on empty.

As others have said, still needed above others though! Hopefully we can wrap him up and roll him out again Saturday.

Matusiwa is my main concern for Saturday, he is clearly running on empty. Does Sam Morsy fancy coming in as a ringer?
