Plus the £8m compo was put in there to ensure only the elite clubs can afford the compensation. Although it's bizarre clubs will drop £80m on a player with ease but not a tenth of that on a world class coach.

I guess that even if a £80M player underperformed, clubs will still get a large chunk of that fee back if he was sold - especially with add-ons and sell on clauses. If a manager underperforms a club will get no money back.

Players don't need to be sacked and replaced in the same way as Managers. Player not performing, you can swap them out, loan them, give them a smaller role, or sell them. Managers are either boom or bust (and more often than not bust). Hence they don't hold as much value.

Managers a) aren’t a financial asset and b) the cost can’t be amortised across the length of the contract. It might not seem logical, but to some extent it’s due to how the cost appears in the accounts and for FFP.

Still, I'm glad they won't,

I'm not sure I can see Palace being prepared to pay what it'll take to get KM there. I think they will struggle next season, they have a tiny squad and need a ton of investment. A few players out of contract in the summer and Mateta wanting out, they could find themselves scrapping next year. I do find all the PL clubs being linked with Lampard slightly surprising, this season aside, his managerial career has been wholly underwhelming, and his PL roles were incredibly poor. It does seem this season was a bit of an anomaly.

I suppose the main difference is a player costs you x amount plus his contract and if he leaves because he is wanted by another club you don't have to pay up his contract and you hopefully receive a fee larger than the one that you paid to get them in, or that the player has given you several years of service and you get a small fee and he's off your books. KM was seen by the owners and senior management as someone who could take as further and so he got a 2 million pound contract therefore losing him might involve a fee for another manager and if not a new man could come in, be of little use and you have to pay his contract up and get yet another manager in. Which did happen several times before KM. Comparing what players get against what managers get always throws up debate. But then you have the officials that most likely get a fraction of what KM gets and a minute amount compared to players who can be on £500,000 a week such as Harland.

I think they would spend it on a world class coach…, Brighton wouldn’t meet McKenna demands, there isn’t much they’ve got wrong as a club, including that decision. No side would pay him what we did. And with good reason. He needs to get us top half in the prem, and challenging for Europe to justify it, that’s a long way from where we stand, Parker just lost his job with a better record in the EFL and the prem. It’s a big step, others have done it, KM I’m not convinced has learnt the lessons, still thinks every problem is a coaching issue, and that’s not how teams work…, we’ve hardly thrived this last month - in spite of his narrative that we’ve grown, we really don’t look much better then most at this level. Doubt anyone will touch him at that level, and cost. Time will tell…,hopefully we’re more Sunderland next year if we go up. 5th worst side to ever compete at the level, I think even KM was surprised by how short he was.

No wonder he's never won anything. Stay away from our KMcK.

Yup. Clueless clown and one-trick pony. Even if that trick is pretty good.
