If they were talking about taking out a contract on him, THAT would be disrespectful!

Other than that, yeah his contract's up, makes sense for the local paper to discuss it.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

I posed a similar question the other day and got told not to post contract situations before the season has finished.

Wasn't the point at all (Or a dig at you by the way) as Walton will still be under contract with us so just felt talk of replacing him was a bit premature and I am sure we dont want to tempt fate!

Personally I see Burns situation similar to Morsy although Morsy was three years older in that he may want a two or three year contract and it boils down to whether Town are prepared to offer him that.
If you recall an offer was tabled for the Millwall winger and maybe if Millwall don't get promoted we could go back in for him ?
Given that scenario and that currently we play Egeli and McAteer in that position would we want Burns as well.
It will be a sad day when he goes as it will be with Chappers. But as a club we must move on and a lot has to happen to be good enough to compete and stay in the Premier league should we defeat QPR.

Forum posters can't discuss contracts for players?

What?!

That was entirely different. That thread was about which players still in contract for a year or more people thought we should dump after we get promoted (ok, my wording there is a bit hyperbolic, but that was in effect the purpose of that thread). That, imo, is disrespectful before the end of the season.

Discussing what we'd like to see for a player who's contract expires in 2 months imo is fine.

I'd say even what you said is fine.

Why can't fans of football club discuss which players their team should keep if they were to go up to the next level.

That's kind of what football forums are for!

The week we're pushing to confirm promotion is, imo, SO out of line.

It says 'thanks for getting us over the line in the next few days, but now we're going to discard you'. Have a little decorum, please. Many fans complain about players having no loyalty these days - for me this demonstrates no loyalty from the fans who engage in it. Not this week FFS - get behind the lads we have, celebrate with them when they get us over the line and THEN, with the transfer window about to open, start those conversations.

But that's just me - it's the way I was brought up. To respect others' feelings. I know, a little old fashioned these days ...

No, that's perfectly reasonable and those are very good values.

Its just in reality, football fans will discuss players on a whim, if they have a bad game they are rubbish, if they play well they are the best player ever.

Its the nature of the beast.

I for one, don't think Greaves is good enough for the Prem, doesn't mean I am not 100% behind him on Saturday.

For me its just being careful about getting too far ahead of ourselves. We still need to do the business on the pitch before we know whether player X, Y or Z will be good enough.

Hopefully that will be Saturday but this is Ipswich Town and we love to cause a few nerves on the way!

Shouldn't be going anywhere in my opinion. Crucial in both promotions, injured early on in the prem and we looked a worse team without him.

I don't think we're going to be able to get a squad player on the same level that's not going to cost a lot more money.

Just saying oh well that's the way it is shouldn't be an adequate excuse.for negative and basically disrespectful behavior, though. Which is basically all you've said there.

Egeli has gone off the boil lately and McAteer took his chance however, when Wes plays we look a better team, more balanced. If we do make the PL I think a one year deal with the option of another year would be enough to tempt Wes to stay.

Thing is, some players you least expect step up to the higher level.

Whilst we obviously need more quality (starting with the strikers) I wouldn't be thinking about jettisoning anyone in a hurry (and certainly not before the last game's played). Smacks of arrogance, not to mention disrespect as others have said.

I could give him an inspiring and motivational pep talk, it would probably help, but it doesn't change the fact I imagine we'll replace him IF we go up.

I also think he has been harshly treated on here from almost the day he signed, he's a decent footballer.

I'm still of the view Greaves will play in the Prem regularly in his career. Whether that will be next season or not I'm unsure but he's got the attributes needed to play at that level, imo. His issue has been form and confidence but now he seems to be getting back to his best and he's looking very useful.

Very manly of you. I've actually got no problem with discussing Burns future. He's going to be out of contact on the summer.

If we go up, give him 12 months, but doubt he’ll be first choice.

If we don’t, give him 2 more years.
