Ipswich promoted and bus parade, ladies also won, Man City 3-3 comeback, an 18-17 snooker world final, exciting grand prix that actually had several cars that could have won, derby win in the speedway.

There are legions of them and have finally over the last 2 decades of trying broken through big time. Quite possible more than half of the entry next season will be Chinese and the majority of the rest of the non Chinese guys are in their 40’s and 50’s with very few young’uns coming through.

did you not see the qualifiers and 1st round matches ? Stan Moody is like 19 year old prodigee theyre talking up big time, first teenager to qualify for the worlds for nearly 20 years, actually could have won his first round match but his inexperience at that level got to him.

It's a unique British soft power opportunity, innit, which Starmer would do well to embrace. Something we can really push to get us a little closer to the only reasonably sane superpower left in this crazy fked up world.

“reasonably sane superpower” The one that’s put 1m Muslims into internment and forced work camps? Not sure our definitions of sane are aligned, or that’s the kind of country I’d want to be closer aligned too, we owe it to the people of Hong Kong we opened our doors to flee their brutality - Starmer should stay well clear. Europe is the only superpower we should be dealing

Barry Hearn realised that China was the long term future of snooker years ago & he was right. A huge, growing economy & a large pool of players & interest in the game.

True. It was just a dig at the US really. Should have read the most sane, without applying any kind of standard. If Europe can become a superpower with us part of it, I'm all in on that one.

The chances of a group of very different countries e.g. Europe acting as a unitary force is as close to zero as you might want.

Sorry for going off topic - it just seemed somewhat ironic given the detention centre thread. Putting a huge number of a minority group in work camps (or disappeared without trial) is ICE on steroids, we should definitely not be looking to align with them. Economically, Europe is most definitely a super power with some of the richest per capita countries in the world. Fortunately, they/we have woken up to the reality we need to do more militarily (in terms of defence). Largely Europe has all been aligned in support of Ukraine (who’s civilians are being attacked by Chinese weapons I’d add), Hungary the outlier, but fortunately Orban has now gone. Anyway back to the snooker!

Yes, economically Europe is a major power. Some governments, especially the ones which feel threatened by Putin's Russia, have actually increased their defence spending, but Starmer & others simply talk about it, without being able to take the much harder decision of how to fund it. Europe, as a collection of different countries, is unsurprisingly near useless if actual military action in required.
