Jess is a woman, not a man. She is allowed to argue for women's rights (as indeed a man would be too, incidentally).

Yep, it's a stupid comment, certainly xenophobic, but calling it antisemitic is a bit of a stretch.

Indeed. And is conflating Israel with Judaism not one of the accepted definitions of antisemitism?

no you're right, but did you read on? This is sh1tty: "Following criticism of the remarks, the ambassador, who has been contacted for comment, retweeted another message describing the antisemitism crisis as an "entirely constructed moral panic, invented by the Zionist lobby and their servile allies in Downing Street and the rapid dogs of the press".

Have to say it’s more common to use ‘rabid’ rather than ‘rapid’ when describing the press in this way. Just saying like

i think that resolves any doubt about what her intentions were.

Not mention how charming it is to agitate against someone purely on the basis of their nationality. Does she have a full list of countries which are no-gos?

I don't really have a problem with that, in the same way as I didn't have a problem with the cultural boycott of South Africa in the 1980's. The tweet you linked however, is just vile racism.

I get your argument, but personally, I wouldn't want to judge someone on the basis of where they're from - loads of Israeli bods are against what's happening over there. (no idea what this footballer thinks, being honest). Mrs Ullaa's dad was South African (although he left because of apartheid) and was thoroughly against his country.

I would also have reservations if town were rumoured to be signing an Israeli player

I don't see it as a case of judging them. Nobody choses the country in which they are born. International pressure on the Israeli public will hopefully see them in turn put pressure on their elected officials to end the occupation.

FIFA and other sporting organisations seem to have had no problem with issuing sporting sanctions against Russian teams and sportspeople. Yet Israel continues to get a free pass, despite committing genocide.

Quelle surprise. So you read "another message describing the antisemitism crisis as an "entirely constructed moral panic, invented by the Zionist lobby and their servile allies in Downing Street and the rapid dogs of the press" and didn't see any antisemitism in it? Koonters would be proud of his Padwan. [Post edited 7 May 19:07]

I wonder if they would feel the same about signing an Iranian player? Or a Palestinian? Seeing as they believe that citizens are responsible for the actions of their government. When the UK/US coalition killed between 150,000 and 210,000 Iraqi civilians should british and American footballers been blacklisted? Or maybe they are in favour of this sort of thing https://www.thejc.com/news/uk/

Disingenuous as always. Polling in Israel has consistently shown broad support for military action in Gaza, Lebanon, Iran and beyond. Here's a concerning one- a poll from June 2025 showed 64% of Israelis believed there were "no innocents in Gaza". This number includes 17% of the population who are Palestinians with Israeli citizenship, who almost unanimously disagreed, meaning amongst Jewish Israelis the statement was even more widely accepted. Meanwhile polling for the Iraq war amongst UK citizens on aggregate show support of around 54%, a large part of these being with stipulations.

Nice swerve. But of we are going by polls, how about a Palestinian player? https://www.reuters.com/world/ What is your view on Town signing Sergei Baltacha at the same time the Soviets were killing 500,000 to over 2 million Afghan civilians? Just answer the question please.

It goes both ways though - the Israeli government has done a pretty good job of convincing its citizens (including some people I went to uni with) that the boycotts are antisemitic behaviour, and has used it to encourage a siege mentality and that the left-wing, anti-settler opposition are treacherous collaborators with foreign antisemites.
