Now the EFL will boot Southampton out of the play offs.

And to think we were the pantomime villains this season, accused of cheating! It really leaves a bitter taste in the mouth watching their fans and players celebrate and make jokes about spying.

Nasty club.

They won’t. Best we can hope for is a points deduction in the PL

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

I think they could disqualify them if they are found guilty. But it has to happen quickly.

How can they justify a points deduction next season in a league thats not even the efl and southampton go on and get £180 mill or what ever it is. Its rewarding cheating. But thats if they are found guilty.

Won't be a points deduction next year if they are promoted as EFL have no jurisdiction in EPL.

There’s been conversations of cross sanctions since the Leicester debacle I believe.

They got charged immediately I don’t think there’s much doubt at this point. I just can’t imagine them chucking them out, maybe if there’s evidence of previous this season.

Think thats key. I imagine many clubs are looking at cctv footage

What is it 21 games unbeaten since he the manager took over.

I dont know what legal case boro have too. Yes theyve lost the game and there would still be a final to play but they've lost out on a load of money potentially to a club who cheated.

There’s a legitimate argument that spying handed them enough info to win.
In either case, I would be pretty certain that by the weekend we hear of potential legal action by Boro.

Even without an identical anti-spying regulation, the Premier League has broad rules around:

- utmost good faith
- integrity of competition
- conduct bringing the league into disrepute

So hypothetically, if:

Southampton were found guilty by an EFL commission then promoted ...

the PL could potentially argue:

“This conduct undermined sporting integrity and is incompatible with league standards.”

Then:

- a PL independent commission could impose its own sanction.

They’ve also picked the wrong chairman to do it to.

I’d imagine championship clubs will be happy for Southampton to be promoted.

It’s more than conversations - both the EFL and the PL updated their rules to allow sanctions to follow the clubs. So the rules now allow it in both associations.
