| Is spygate verdict really not being released until tomorrow? on 16:51 - May 19 with 1890 views | Radlett_blue | Yes, but it's a complex case & any decision is likely to be appealed by Saints or Boro. One possible decision would be to chuck Saints out & award the play off final to Hull but that's not going to happen, is it? | |

Seems harsh on Boro - given they are the team that has been wronged here.

It’s only complex because the EFL don’t have established punishments for the crime. There’s zero doubt Saints cheated. They have at no stage denied it. There surely has to be a sporting sanction rather than financial. 10 point deduction for whatever league they’re in next season sounds about right.

Yes, but the big problem is that Boro feel that Saints cheated their way past them in the S/F (they did cheat & in a close 2 legged tie, it could have been critical) & that getting into the PL is worth so much money. Simply chucking Saints out of the play offs & reinstating Boro seems the least bad decision.

They do need to establish the scope of the spying. Is there evidence this has happened before? Who knew it was going on? Someone decided to do this. Who?

It'd be lovely if logic and fairness were the only deciding factors in the decision wouldn't it ..!

The fact the independent commission is only meeting today is staggering. Don’t hurry yourself, lads.

With so much money at stake if they rush anything or go outside of normal procedure without all sides agreeing then they're just leaving themselves open to litigation. E.g Clubs usually have 14 days to respond - they're already going within that timeframe.

Boro have no right to lodge an appeal or attend the hearing, or have legal representation at the hearing, as the EFL do not consider them a "party of interest" which is very strange.

Suitable barristers, or a King's Counsel aren't going to be immediately available for the panel. There's quite a process to go through to pull this all together, and it has to be done right - as much as we'd like a quick resolution.

Fair points but it’s not exactly a murder trial, is it? We already know Southampton FC are guilty, though admittedly not the extent of who requested and authorized the spying. I just want a fair outcome but more importantly one that might help us. Give Hull a bye or minus 10 for saints to start the season.

Although it's not a murder trial, presumably in needs to be led by a barrister or King's Council that is an expert in the field of FA/PL/EFL laws and rules, and I'm guessing there aren't many - and most would normally have a 'day job' with commitments. Certainly not ideal in a situation where a quick resolution is required, but those don't come along that often. If they did, they could have qualified legal bods on retainer to pick up hearings with little to no delay.

Possibly extra aggravation of the offence with it being such a significant game.

| Is spygate verdict really not being released until tomorrow? on 18:27 - May 19 with 860 views | Cheltenham_Blue | Just reading a bit more of this, on the BBC website it says, "It is expected to be a virtual hearing but it could take up to 24 hours for the verdict to be made public." Suggests that Boro and Southampton will find out today, but the outcome will be embargoed, I assume to allow time for further representations, before the result is given tomorrow. | |

Yes but don't forget these officials have to find the best hotel, the best food and wine available whilst they pontificate their decision and like VAR interpreting what crime has been committed may involve many hours of wringing of hands. Finite microscopic and scientific studying of the photograph of the spy. Whether the tree had any involvement means that some form of castigation may also have to be done to the tree. A good telling off or maybe stripped of its bark. The golf clubs involvement may be par for the course of any decision. Did the photographer have matching socks or a hole in one. Yes it's complicated but I still say if you finish third then you should go up otherwise why bother giving different points for a win or a draw if it means sod all at the end of a long season.
