Can tell you right now, we are definitively not going to be able to compete with those teams if they want a player we want.
We can sign players they haven't identified (like Leeds with Anton Stach).
We can sign players they don't want, trusting that they've misjudged them (like Sunderland with Brian Brobbey).
We can sign players that are a bad use of their money but a good use of ours (like Sunderland with Granit Xhaka and Leeds with Dominic Calvert-Lewin).
But if we want a player and any of those clubs also meet the asking price, then it'll be game over for that transfer. |  |

Exactly, if you're Hackney, would you rather join an established mid table PL club or book in for a probably relegation battle with Town, probably with a relegation clause in your contract?
Credit to McKenna & the team for nearly recruiting a very good player last summer, but this is a good indication that we will struggle to recruit British players who might keep us up. |  |

I never said compete I said in the same recruitment areas. Our recruitment team should know about players in this pool and have those connections.
Likewise, I would not expect us to be in the same area for players Man City, Arsenal are going to go for.

Herein is the problem. Identifying players that are good enough and realistic. Instead of spending time chasing players we can't sign or ending up with players that aren't good enough.
I am quite sure the likes of O'Shea, Greaves, Jack Taylor, Philogene, Jack Clarke, etc will be much better for having had a season in the Premier League and will be part of the squad next season. |  |

That would be an awful move for him. An uninspiring team with an uninspiring manager and unhappy fans.
He would be better off going to one of the new breed of teams like Bournemouth, Brentford or Brighton. Less pressure on him and he can be gradually integrated into the team as the season progresses. |  |

Hackney does, I think. That's why he held out for a PL club instead of coming here. Didn't go well. May get the last laugh this time round. Facts are he's unproven outside the Championship so far. He might take to it like a duck to water, he might not, but if the rumours are correct that Everton are in for him for £10M, I'd say that's a risk worth taking. Of course, they are rumours. |  | | |
