It’s good for the gardens.

Lovely drop of ‘Adams Ale’ as my Grandmother called the rain.

So much for all this global warming,it wasn’t invented back then in the 1970s.

My Butts are filling nicely.

Have a good day people.

Have a read of this Benters.

El Nino itself is a natural event as I understand it, but there will be feedback and an interrelation with man made climate change. The territory that this puts the interlinked climate systems of the world into now is terrifying, truly terrifying.

Super El Nino on the way by NthQldITFC 2 Jun 10:05
A really good article on the BBC with lots of graphics for ease of understanding and clarification for people like me who need visual help to understand text and numbers sometimes.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/resources/idt-54f4e985-a7fb-48b2-8246-f3be0d699402

El Nino affects the southern hemisphere more directly than us in the north, but the probable scale of this one plus the fact that we're a massive half a degree hotter (yes that is massive in the global energy balance context) than the last big El Nino in 2016, is likely to make things extremely unpredictable later this year, even here. Southern hemisphere things could be catastrophic.

If this El Nino is towards the top end of its possible range, who knows what the whole world is about to face.

It's not too late to make things at least a little less bad.

You've got to be crazy, immensely thick or hiding under stone to ignore the dangerous state we've put our poor planet into, and the risks and consequences which are now right on top of us.

I don't know if you make these posts to try to fool yourself, or whether it's some sort of gallows humour or what, but those of us who care about other people and about the entire fragile natural balance of this world find them immeasurably irresponsible and offensive.

Sort yourself out.

In fairness, climate change doesn't affect great Bentley as it's caught in a paracausal time warp that means it's always 1940 and the locals are constantly reliving our Great British glories of the past:

You do know they call it climate change now specifically because people like you refuted it's existence if every single day wasn't really warm, or went on about one freak summer in the 70s as proof that it doesn't exist.

You are right, but I think it's because despite Benters clearly trying to be amusing and on a bit of a wind up, he also clearly believes that viewpoint. Therefore some people who are actually worried about the environment try desperately to educate him.

I appreciate that that is a complete waste of time though. But it's hard not to try to talk sense to people being deliberately ignorant.

The thread is meant to be light hearted. Fun. Why the pile in on the OP? Who are you to decide what somebody believes in or otherwise let alone whether they are ignorant or not if you don’t know them? Is that not being judgemental?

Sometimes a light touch or observational thread like this should be is a good thing, in my view. There’s a time and a place to be serious and earnest about stuff.

I was just going on everything Benters has ever written on the subject to establish his opinion. Seemed a reasonable approach.

I'm not the only one posting on here with more serious climate related posts, why pick on me?

I agree the thread is a light touch, but it also very much seems to be a thread started deliberately to wind some up, why bother putting the stuff in about global warming and the 76 heatwave (again!) otherwise?

As I said in my post, probably best to try not to engage on that level, but it can be hard not to.

I agree, it's how he usually posts, always to be taken with a large pinch of salt.

However the issue is so critically important for the future of humankind and, assuming the trend upwards continues in terms of extreme weather conditions and events, will likely lead to more humans being forced to flee their environment -> further immigration for the UK, something we know Benters cares about, that on this one I felt it needed to be downvoted on the basis that there really are one or two loony deniers out there for whom all naysaying comments are grist to the mill, which encourages them; then that snowball may roll & encourage more loons.

I was once going to buy a Dodge Ram V8 but it all went tits up.

Ahh, Steve McQueen’s Ford Mustang GT with a 390CC V8. Best car chase ever. Oh the sound and look of that car - yes please! The Dodge Charger he chased in it was even more powerful, but it didn’t look as good.

Yep, you cannot beat a V8 for a sound track unless you upgrade to WW2 Merlin engines. the P51 Mustang you get a slight whistle with it which is the airflow over the gun ports. In the Spitfire, pure Merlin music. The German Daimler Benz engine in 109s sounded good too, especially the later version with superchargers that make it howl.

Yep all great I was talking about cars though.

Ok aircraft, the other year The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (as do most aircraft ) come right over my house heading towards the Clacton Airshow.

But this particular year the Lancaster Spitfire and Hurricane must have arrived a bit early,as they were doing a massive circle over the village green and the surrounding villages in preparation for going into Clacton,I had heard Nigel was sitting in one of the gun turrets? But I don’t know how true that was.😂🇬🇧

Anyway at least four or five times they did this circle and they weren’t particularly high either, and the sound was amazing from them flying in formation like that.

I’ve been to Duxford a few times including the fighter meet and the sound (and smell) of the engines is something else. The oddest though was a Polikarpov I-16 Rata (late 30s stubby little Russian aircraft). Sounded like a chain saw.

Back to cars, one of the many things I dislike about electric cars is the lack of engine noise. A real contradiction given manufacturers have striven over the decades to make cars quieter. But somehow, the sound of a good engine is music all of its own. An acquaintance of mine gave me a lift in his Honda S2000 about 10 years ago. Summer, roof down, scenery passing by, that beautiful engine purring away = contentment.

My own car is the fastest I’ve ever own. Ok, it’s a bit boring, not that quick or powerful but I’m told it’ll do 140mph and when you hit the pedal, you can feel the turbocharger kick in more than hear it. It’s a quiet car. Is that a good thing? Of course, but just sometimes I yearn for McQueen’s Ford Mustang V8!

If you do, he won’t be flying anywhere. There are few in existence and none airworthy. Quite tricky to fly, it was an excellent aeroplane in its day though, even if its entry into service was delayed by insane political meddling.
