Nostalgia thread - what did you spend your pocket money on? 11:57 - Jun 3 with 1444 viewsbaxterbasics

This thought train got triggered by a discussion earlier in a GenX FB group.

You can probably tell what era anyone grew up in by the answers here.

These were my key go-to's whenever I had cash to spend:

Can I also throw in Saturday Morning Pictures?

So we would go to the newsagent to get our comics then walk to the Odeon in town, pay 2 1/2 p on the door and watch a Laurel and Hardy or Abbott and Costello short film, a Children's Film Foundation movie, an episode of Zoro and a black and white Batman film. A girl would come around with ice lollies at half time.

This probably seem alien to our younger posters.

Panini stickers
Players No 6.

Players No 10, No 6 and Carlton King Size (pack between three of us)
Cheap fishing floats from Woolworths.
Smiths crisps.
Dandelion and burdock pop.
Sherbet dips.

I had a Saturday morning job cleaning cars at a local garage for a quid so supplemented pocket money with that.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

When very young it was The Dandy, which during the week I’d swap with The Beano and Beezer. Sweets (lucky bags, sherbet lemons, refreshers, fruit salad, chocolate toffee rolls, wine gums - sweets in jars! Not all, just something. A percentage I always saved. Right from the off.

Later, it was Commando books, Shoot of course and Airfix or Revell kits plus paints, brushes etc. and a percentage saved. it always took an age to save for stuff and supplement, but I’d find a way.

From about 12 money had to be found for cigarettes and from about 13/14 alcohol and going out when opportunity and time allowed.

“Some Girls Will” was my first 7”

It’s a questionable song now.

Forgot records - but I think I was about 14 before I started saving for and buying those. Always albums.
