You try that job and see how long you last
| did McKenna leave on 09:33 - Jun 11 with 1609 views | WolfieAtTheBack | He left so the release clause hanging over his head can expire. It is a very calculated move by KM and his reps. He will be in 12 months time a free agent. No doubt he will have some family time but as a 40 year old professional he will plotting his next moves. | | | |

To be fair, most managers will work similar hours and have similar pressures and dont take a year off. If he has taken a year off for his own health, then I applaud him for that. There is also the chance that it is a well managed decision based around protecting his reputation and CV. Which I also dont have an issue with.

| did McKenna leave on 09:34 - Jun 11 with 1586 views | Bellevue_Blue | I think it's a simple as this ... He knows another relegation would harm his chances of a decent PL job. He can leave on a high now and be first in line for the next big job. Then you add in the opportunity to take a proper break. Remember he became Jose Mourinho's assistant manager 8 years ago and I suspect he has been flat out since then. Why does there have to be something more sinister? Put yourself in his position and you'd just done what he's done but for a team you are not affiliated with. Taking a break and then landing an a role with an established PL team sounds like a very good deal. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Add in some punditry and getting himself seen observing managers at the elite European clubs, and elite clubs in other sports and its the perfect career marketing campaign. ....for the record, I dont have an issue with that.

Exactly this, bank his good rep, take some well earned rest and family time etc... and spend the next 10 months putting feelers out. He won't be short of offers.

| did McKenna leave on 09:40 - Jun 11 with 1423 views | Churchman | I think he’s gone because he’s disappointed that Ashton didn’t invite him to lunch with Farage. I’ve been told from a very reliable source that McKenna has always been a big Reform man and got very upset when he found out he’d missed out on a pint at the bar, Chicken Kiev, Apple Pie and custard followed by After Eight mints. The reliable source? The voices in my head. They’re never wrong. | | | |
| did McKenna leave on 09:41 - Jun 11 with 1408 views | nrb1985 | Without being flippant - none of this matters now. Take the explanation he’s given at face value - thanks for the memories, we move on. Massive few weeks coming up for the club now as we prepare for a second PL season in the last three. And what a phenomenal place to be that is given where we’ve come from. COYB. | | | |

He will be batting away offers once he is a free agent or if the release clause goes down pro rata as advised. Brilliant move by his advisors, bad for us sadly!

Calculated? So he 'loses' £5m (or more) in wages to save a hiring club paying £8m in comp a year down the line? [Post edited 11 Jun 9:49]

He has a 25 / 30 year career in front of him at potentially the very top level, he will make the footfall up fairly quickly once in a new club with top up and signing on fees. He is not going to be skint is he!
| did McKenna leave on 09:52 - Jun 11 with 1165 views | lazyblue | No it obviously wasn’t. I don’t get why people are trying to find a negative of why he left . He was exhausted, done what he had to do and needs a break . We were always a stepping stone to his next part of his managerial career. | | | |

Haha true. He's earnt enough money he can have a luxury of a year off, and will easily get another job afterwards. Most of us "normal" people can't do that, so he's in a unique situation.

I think the Blue Monday guys reckoned he was doing roughly 120 hour weeks. Accompany that with the stress and pressure of the job then it’s enough for anyone. The overriding message at the end of the season was he wanted to go and have a break. I imagine spending a bit of quality time with his family, away from the job will have made him realise how much he has been missing. A really sensible decision from a clearly very intelligent and decent man.

| did McKenna leave on 09:56 - Jun 11 with 1077 views | WD19 | Its likely to be a combination of things, but he definitely looked tired and like he was enjoying it less last season. He probably feels like he needs a break and also a period of reflection to grow further and be at his best long term. Without that his chances of keeping up would have been diminished anyway. The break gives him the best chance of developing further in a positive direction......in a way you cant do working 16 hours a day 7 days a week. | | | |

Thought the same after getting promotion. He looked like he knew then that he was finished here. Been a great ride but we moved on and hopefully upwards.

Maybe he has also noticed a few red flags in his line manager's recent behaviour. Along with your other points, I've no issue with that
