Please can you create a new filter that deletes any posts or threads with the mention of Farage.

If not can you give me a way that I can hide them?

Quite honestly I’m sick and tired of coming on to this site and forum to get my Ipswich town news, insights, and discussions that is now being highjacked by people’s political persuasions.

Thanks from Sweden, Uppa Town!!

Hmmm, let me think - a thread discussing what the content of the football section should include. Let me think where that should be...

It's an issue that's absolutely fundamental to how this forum works overALL, not just in one 'department'. As such it really needs to be seen by as many forum users as poss, which means putting it in 'general' so that it appears in both 'football' *and* general.

Therw's really no need to fight about that!

The irony 😂

Anyhoo this thread that was meant to hopefully point out the continuous Ashton beating which may or may not be deserved alongside everything constantly circling back to his political faux pas. I think it’s clear there is a problem here?!?

It may mean a lot to some, I respect that, however not everyone. I appreciate it’s “club related” but seriously give it a break, you’ve made your point and spoken your voice! I want to get back to positive Ipswich town news, hear about our potential new manager and our transfer targets.

The hope was there could be a way I could filter out anything related to the same hamster wheel narrative that seems to hijack any thread and adds conspiracy level mindset to anyone reading.

Ashton may or may not be XYZ and I’d like to think most people are educated enough to have their own opinion on F*r*ge.

Our mighty Ipswich Town FC on the other hand, I’d love to talk about ❤️🔵⚪️💪

"Ashton beating which may or may not be deserved" - so you agree Ashton criticism might be warranted, but we shouldn't be allowed to discuss it?

"most people are educated enough to have their own opinion on F*r*ge" - nothing to do with Farage. Everything to do with pointlessly politicising ITFC, and us having to have this conversation. Reform, Greens, Labour, Lib Dems, Tory, Raving Loony - ITFC shouldn't support any of them bc many fans will vociferously disagree with the club's stance. Ashton created a fire storm, and hence here we are.

Debate it all you want, that’s your entitlement. It’s the hijacking of every football related thread to continue the narrative which is quite tiresome hence the hope of being able to filter it out which I understand is almost impossible.

Do I think Ashton criticism is warranted, yes maybe but not to the level it is being fixated on. I can think of many positive things Ashton has done since being at the club and I’d rather focus on them than focusing on his mistakes (yes you’ve debated his big one a thousand times over).

Everyone makes mistakes and if you dig deep enough you will always find them, even McKenna.

Looking at the outer shell of ITFC it’s in hugely better shape than it was before the takeover on so many different levels. That’s what I would like to fixate on. There will be more mistakes and feel free to keep looking for them but the growth of ITFC in recent years is undeniable.

If we can’t be positive through these five years of growth on and off the pitch then whenever will we be?

I don't think many people are suggesting that, and it's certainly not the point of the discussion here. The issue is that almost every thread is being interjected by some, with Farage/Ashton comments, many which have zero to do with what happened. A thread about toothpaste could be started, and some would feel the necessity to interject Ashton/Farage comments.

Is it asking too much to keep it to threads where that's what's being discussed, rather than hijack every thread whatever the topic? It would make it far easier for those that don't want to participate to avoid those threads.

A lot of what you define as politic, I would call economics or rules.

I don’t belong to one golf club any more. I play anywhere with a couple of societies. English golf clubs don’t ban women any more though some do have stupid rules.

The football ground buildings etc) is actually owned by the club. The land on which they sit is owned by the Council (leasehold)

The owners bought the club for economic reasons, not political. The idiot was banned because he broke the rules.

Kids play for fun. They don’t boot a ball around thinking how could Sturgeon miss a motor home or £81k jag. They just play.

In other words, what you define as politics is not the same as how I see it. Politics in the context of TWTD is lunch with Farage, Starmer, Johnson and the dregs that stink out the HoC and HoL.

Yes, actually politics is all about what you vote for every four years. They set policy. Nobody else. The in between thinking is the actions they take, how much they impoverished you this year etc, which is why a separate tab is a good idea.

You can separate out actions and thoughts and it’s actually a good idea that’s always worked for me. Of course those things exist but you don’t have to let them infect your life 24/7 unless you want to. Switching on, switching off. It’s actually why top golfers achieve what they do.

A lot of people don’t which is why my mate will be in the pub and constantly fiddling with his phone texting or piddling around on the internet. It’s hardly a shock that his life is one of chaos.

Just my opinion.

Really enjoyed this one, Churchman. It's actually refreshing to read posts with no connecting throughline, just a response to each sentence in the quoted post straight from the id.

Maybe for the future though I would read the post before you start typing, otherwise you might write something in response to one line which is immediately refuted by the next.

In that case it should be posted separately in both, in order to be seen by as many as possible.

People having ‘all’ as their choice would see it twice, but doubt that’d be a problem.

I think it very unlikely that anyone chooses ‘general’ only though - if they don’t want stuff on ITFC, why would they be here rather than X or any other platform?

Ashton promoting Farage is directly relevant to eg this:

Ashton Visits Primary School With Promotion Trophy 9th Jun 2026 13:35
Town CEO and chairman Mark Ashton was joined by Bluey, Crazee and the Championship promotion trophy when he visited Gusford Primary School on Monday afternoon as they celebrated Blue Day. 7

story promoting his community cohesion because even Mckenna said Ashton's actions had caused discord in the last few months. We've every right to interject in stories like this.
"This is Ashton's only mistake" - those who believe his player research and negotiations have been substandard, especially in the lead-up to and during our last Prem season have every right to interject in threads on the club's transfer-market performance too.
You can't place Ashton in a walled garden. Somehow he's made himself not only CEO, but Chairman and figurehead of the club. Those who think his influence is excessive and at least needs guardrails have every right to interject.

It not hijacking. It's relevant to a lot of threads.

I really don’t care who meets Mark Ashton for tiffin.

You have expressed this position consistently since Farage visited the club.
I guess we'll never really know if your position changes as it's quite unlikely many, if any other politicians will be dropping by for lunch.
I seem to recall Hunt visiting, which is fair enough when he was the sitting MP for Ipswich.
Farage wasn't. It's inexplicable that there could've been any other reason in the run up to the local elections for the visit other than to show some support for his aims. Our club was used for that aim. It can't be denied that the red carpet was well and truly rolled out.
No other politician came anywhere near. One can't but help to wonder why.
You've never hidden your support for Farage, which is fair enough. Thousands have.
Likewise You've consistently stated a desire to "restore (No pun intended) our great country to what it once was", though it's not always clear when that was or what it really looked like.
So I think the question for me to you and other Farage supporters is how do you square that desire with Farage's "cold, pure hate" remarks and the empowering nature of those words to those who have created havoc in Southampton, burnt black people out of their houses in Northern Ireland and seen masked thugs zieg heiling on the streets of Glasgow during an anti racism counter protest?
That doesn't sound like a country anyone would want to live in, yet alone somehow a marker of a restoration of greater times.
Is this really what you and others want?
This is what Farage, Lowe (another favourite of one or two here) et al stand for, so as long as the chairman of this club is seemingly supportive of Farage at least, there are many who want better for this country and will continue to campaign against the politics of hate and division.
It's no longer possible to split politics and this club. That's due to no one else other than Ashton and it's hard for many of us (the LBF as you referred to us as) to look past that now.
It doesn't make us somehow less of a Town fan though.

"Look, I don't wanna be the same as everybody else. That's why I'm a Mod, see?"

Eg I think Ashton is relevant to the topic of McKenna walking:

McKenna: My Focus Has Been On Working With the Players, But You Don't Like to See Discord 2nd Apr 2026 15:11
Town boss Kieran McKenna says he doesn’t like to see a situation which causes discord among supporters and those who care about the club, but with his focus having been on readying his squad for the final eight games of the season, starting with Birmingham City’s visit on Monday, rather than the furore surrounding last week’s visit to Portman Road by Reform UK leader Nigel Farage. 60

“I’ve spoken to Mark... there are always going to be different opinions." - on the topic of discord, he said he'd spoken with Ashton and disagreed with him. Mentioned he had "different opinions" to Ashton following his politicisation of ITFC. This is relevant to discussions on why KM left.

Let's also not forget that Ashton's promotion of Farage/Reform made the players furious:
Protest by PhilTWTD 29 Mar 14:56
The players were and probably still are furious about all this, as you'd imagine they'd be having had shirts with their names on appearing in videos promoting Reform without their knowledge. And it's certainly not about 'left-wing views', plenty of people who would put themselves on the right on here and elsewhere are unhappy with the association of their club with Reform.

Permeates a lot of topics, including KM's departure.

You're right, it is your post and you can type whatever you like and hit reply. And I can respond saying I thought your message was inane and didn't actually respond to anything raised in the post you quoted. Urbanpenguin set out what I thought a reasoned argument explaining how politics in general is in no way limited to "Politics", or specifically how you feel about the elected government of the time. My reading of your response boiled down to "well I don't think so, and I don't understand any of the examples you've given".

Specifically I found your distinction between "politics" and "rules" quite fascinating. What are rules, if not politics manifest?

”It not hijacking. It's relevant to a lot of threads.”

I have not said it’s not relevant to a lot of threads - it is, but how is it not hijacking when it’s in a thread that’s nothing to do with what happened though? When it’s randomly interjected into a thread?

If it’s relevant sure, but not in completely unrelated threads. It’s annoying and childish. I’m completely against Farage, and the stupid decision to invite him to PR, but there are posters on here who insist on bringing it into every thread that I’ve lost all respect for - posters who previously I viewed as mostly posting sensible stuff. The behaviour is very petulant.
