Please can you create a new filter that deletes any posts or threads with the mention of Farage.

If not can you give me a way that I can hide them?

Quite honestly I’m sick and tired of coming on to this site and forum to get my Ipswich town news, insights, and discussions that is now being highjacked by people’s political persuasions.

Thanks from Sweden, Uppa Town!!

I can never forgive Ashton for hosting racist grifter Farage and promoting Reform, through ITFC. The fact he then lied to all of us, to save his own face, is reprehensible.

Ashton out!

One thing I did suggest in the questionnaire is that there should be a POLITICS tab added, where Football and General are politics-free.

I never bother to go to General. It's basically the same crowd who are saying the same thing, spouting the same politics. Can't be bothered to trawl through that.

Nothing can be politics free. Politics is not something separate to wider society and all we do in it, it is the very construct of all we do and how we do it.

Yes, it’s basically an endless feedback loop, I’d recommend a blocking effort as well if you’re here for the football, never used to do it but it does help. It is still enviable it still pops up in other sections of the board or people forget to label their football only posts as such.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

If you blocked every football thread that had mention of ‘the incident (TM)’ somewhere in it, almost every thread in the football section would end up hidden

Thats what the OP ws asking for though.

Easiest way is to just hide the thread.

Yes it can. Sport.

The last thing I think about in a football ground is the views of the coffee cup and tie brigade in the directors comfy chairs. I don’t think about my problems/demands on my time. I just lose myself following my team. Simple as that.

I couldn’t give two hoots who the players vote for or anyone working at the club, including the CEO. That’s their problem. Or the people near me in the stand. Who am I to judge them or anyone else? If they are convicted murderers or start on me then that’s different.

I play golf sometimes with someone who works for Reform and has sunk a lot of money and time into it. I couldn’t care a less any more than the other people who ankle round a course with him do. The only action is to not engage with him on politics. Over a beer or five? No. I’m enjoying my beer and a laugh.

In work, despite working on projects for the government I never once discussed politics with them and visa versa. Nobody did. There was the work and that was that.

Life is only governed by anything including politics if you let it be. They’re best avoided. We know what the last lot were like and what Blair did with his let’s be like maggie and have a little war thing and we now have a Prime Minister and Chancellor who’ve lied through their teeth on Defence. Even everyone’s favourite ‘wish she was English, only one talking sense’ Sturgeon has turned out to be hardly as pure as the driven snow.

They’re all best ignored. I’ve some holidays coming up in the next six months and I can guarantee that if Starmer is caught in bed with a consenting baboon I neither hear about it or if a do, take the slightest notice of it.

So in my world, not everything can or should be politics. A separate tab for it would be a good thing.

How is sport politics free? That's absurd

Is there a membership of your golf course? Are they using a particular pesticide? Is there a dress code? When were women allowed to be members? And so on and so on.

Ipswich is a club owned by a rich pension fund, the ground is owned by someone different to the club, season ticket prices are going up, little can't afford sky/tnt etc, players are members of the PFA, a man got banned from grounds for life because he celebrated on the pitch, VAR is there because of the way money and legals is entwined with sport, sponsorship by unknowns betting companies in South East Asia, and so on and so on. That's all politics.

Ok, so not professional sport. The parks kids kick about on, the youth clubs they learn five a side in, etc etc. They're also political.

Politics isn't who you or anyone votes for once every four years, and if we think that's the extent of it then perhaps we deserve the power hungry loons who we get.

And, as to the comment "the last thing I think about... I just get lost in the game." (paraphrase) - just because you are not thinking about politics and its impact doesn't mean it doesn't exist. You're not like a dog that thinks its owner has gone because they're hiding behind a bedsheet. You may not take an interest in politics and how it affects the things in your life, but it does in both you and them.

FFS, some posters on this forum can be really unpleasant and unwelcoming at times [mad]

The OP has not asked for censorship. They have not asked for content to be policed by the moderators. Just because they haven't posted much, that doesn't mean they haven't been a member and reader for many years.

They asked for a filter (which means it's something you choose to enable or not), to help them remove posts they don't want to see. Whether this is practical or not, or the existing controls are good enough, or not, this is not on unreasonable thing for someone to post about. If you disagree, you have every right to say so (although why it would hurt anyone to have such filters is hard to see), but in the same way, they have every right to post a suggestion on what they see as an improvement that would allow them to 'choose' what they see or don't see.

Personally I don't see what is being asked for being practical (although there are website content management systems that do allow posts to be hidden when a trigger word you configure in you preferences is included). But there is no need for some of you to lay into the OP, especially since some of the posts have completely misunderstood the original intent.

Talking about what should be in the football section fits best in that section, rather than elsewhere. Some people seem intent on shutting it down, and being unpleasant.

I guess that hit a nerve.

A lot of what you define as politic, I would call economics or rules.

I don’t belong to one golf club any more. I play anywhere with a couple of societies. English golf clubs don’t ban women any more though some do have stupid rules.

The football ground buildings etc) is actually owned by the club. The land on which they sit is owned by the Council (leasehold)

The owners bought the club for economic reasons, not political. The idiot was banned because he broke the rules.

Kids play for fun. They don’t boot a ball around thinking how could Sturgeon miss a motor home or £81k jag. They just play.

In other words, what you define as politics is not the same as how I see it. Politics in the context of TWTD is lunch with Farage, Starmer, Johnson and the dregs that stink out the HoC and HoL.

Yes, actually politics is all about what you vote for every four years. They set policy. Nobody else. The in between thinking is the actions they take, how much they impoverished you this year etc, which is why a separate tab is a good idea.

You can separate out actions and thoughts and it’s actually a good idea that’s always worked for me. Of course those things exist but you don’t have to let them infect your life 24/7 unless you want to. Switching on, switching off. It’s actually why top golfers achieve what they do.

A lot of people don’t which is why my mate will be in the pub and constantly fiddling with his phone texting or piddling around on the internet. It’s hardly a shock that his life is one of chaos.

Just my opinion.

Hit a nerve? Are you all right? I wasn't making any attempt to shut anything down. I was replying to another poster who suggested using the football filter to avoid Farage and political posts, and yet here we are in the football section talking about Farage and politics.

FWIW I’ve been a long term lurker and no I don’t post much. I moved to Sweden 5 years ago and whilst I miss going regularly home and away through our rapid rebirth I’m probably able to watch more games than ever.

This site is one of my go to ways of staying up to date and in touch with all things ITFC. I appreciate that some have strong views and concerns about the club and certain people in it but we are miles better off than we were five years ago. Debate how you wish but I like positivity and find it sad that some people just want to dig out the negative when actually we should be quite positive about the current state of our club.
