Adding 16 lesser teams and having best third placed teams go through has made the group stage pretty pointless. I will enjoy it but it's diluted too much. We might see the same in the Championship play offs. Top 6 getting in play offs or going up was perfect. 8th have no business being there. |  | | |

Sad but these early games was always to be this way 1) in a country that doesnt even know what football is, 2) fifa allowed the whole world to end up at the finals, they have diminished the quality in doing. He's right though, this isn't hit and miss, it's totally pointless in many cases because the mismatches are so large.
There was no footballing reason to increase the number of teams and to remove most of the jeopardy of finishing third.

It’s all just pure greed from FIFA.
Same as why the ‘hydration breaks’ have been put in, so American TV channels can show adverts, also probably why there’s all that faff before the game, delays the kicks offs and allows a big advert break before the game. |  |
