This pre match nonsense will never not be sh1t 20:54 - Jun 17 with 1700 viewsDubtractor

I know it is very dull to moan about the world cup, but several hundred people on the pitch for an overblown ceremony for EVERY group game is just stupid.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

It’s not as bad as they wanted it to be. They wanted players to walk out individually.

My dull moan is about the sight of people in the crowd realising they are on the screen and consequently acting like total dorks.

Yes I know this always happens, and yes I am just a grumpy old man.

That's why I've never watched any of it, including the opening ceremony.

They always wave at the screen and never the camera though which I find far more annoying than I should. I think I too, am becoming a grumpy old man.

You're not the target audience. Just ignore it and switch the game on a minute before it starts.

Many of these teams/countries won't get beyond the extended group stages, so it's their fan's World Cup final. Why not let them enjoy their moment in the spotlight?

It is what it is, it doesn't affect me at all tbf it's better than the boring walkouts in front of a plinth and some flames. It's the biggest show on earth so why not go all out? It only happens once every 4 years so who really cares? Just enjoy the show or maybe use that time to go make a drink or something, no one's forcing you to watch it.

I didn't start watching until seconds before kick off for that very reason. To be honest I hate the flame throwers and loud music crap before the game at Portman Road too. Just let the crowd generate the atmosphere, and have the players just run out of the tunnel, with a couple of them booting a ball in to the air.

God this place lives in internal misery!

They’ve played national anthems at internationals forever, so it’s not like it’s starting 45 minutes before kick off. A few more people on the pitch really something to get that upset about? I’m sure for some younger fringe players in squads it might help them feel more part of representing their country. They may never get a call up again.

The flags, as at the Euros in Germany and at the World Cup in Qatar look decent.

Fireworks at midday vs some mid table team at home on the championship I’d argue is more daft than making soemthing out of an event that happens every 4 years and had a global audience.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

Why do you take any criticism of the World Cup as if it's a personal slight on you?

Now you’re talking. 70’s style.

Running out the tunnel - each team separately. 5 minute kick about and stretch.

Quick handshake - strictly captains and match officials only.

Two teams get properly stuck in to each other.

It's sort of amusing seeing just how defensive of the world cup you are getting, because of a handful of middle aged blokes grumbling about stuff of no great consequence.

I even acknowledge that I'm dull for posting it in my first sentence.

Personal slight on me? I’m not, I’m disagreeing with him, if he’s making the effort to post about it, he can take a reply pushing back can’t he? That’s what the forum is about.

This place gives very much an old man shouts at clouds vibe when it comes to this summer. I personally hate the hydration breaks as well but it seems like people are desperately looking at anything to moan about! Or hoping for it to fail. It’s been a decent tournament so far, just enjoy it or switch it off.

Fair enough.

Just seems that way since the tournament began (not specifically this thread), you've seemed to take umbrage at anyone who has anything bad to say about it.

At least that's the feeling I get from reading the forum since the start. You are of course free to do whatever you like.

I just can’t remember this energy when a remote control car used to deliver the match ball in Euro 2020 lol or when Qatar had huge flags on the pitch before every game. Let’s face it “the game being gone” in a traditional sense is not just unique to this tournament.

I actually think the football has been really decent compared to some previous World Cups or Euros. I’m sure the Americanization is annoying to some but it’s in America so it’s going to have that feel. I think the fans are probably quite enjoying the experience of it in some of the world’s most modern stadia.

I do say positive stuff too.

Lots of goals in this world cup so far by Dubtractor 18 Jun 7:23
Lots of world cups produce cagey and dull group games, clearly not the case in this one so far.

I should caveat that last night is the first game I've watched in full, so possibly the scores have been misleading, but I imagine the numbers speak for themselves.

On last night's game, if we'd scored 2 or 3 more it wouldn't have flattered us, based on that second half performance.

If we're moaning, get behind me in the queue.

Here in Canada we get Martin Tyler and Andy Townshend as commentators for some of the games.

Third round of group games might be a bit of a worry for a few duds with so many likely securing qualification if they get 6 points (I guess even 4 but guarantee it) guess it depends how important it will be for where teams want to try and finish.

I haven’t really looked at it but not sure if we could meet Spain or Portugal earlier if they don’t win their groups.

I’d imagine Spain will but Portugal still have Columbia to play.

I can only imagine the reaction on here if Trump tried to dress the winning captain as a cowboy or native American.
