The funniest version of that was watching the Euro 96 Germany game. I was in a totally full pub in Putney where the game was being shown. Shearer scored quickly and the beer literally hit the ceiling. It was like it was raining.

Pity the monitor projecting the game onto a screen was on the ceiling. Bang! That was the end of that. The pub emptied in under a minute and the landlord wept.

My mate’s flat was only 10 minutes trot plus a few minutes to load up at an off licence, so we were fine. The pub owners weren’t.

If I decide to go out and watch a match, I don't want to end up drenched in beer 'because bantz'.

I was at a festival and they had an big screen on in 2018 when the Euros were on and England scored, pints going everywhere.

Some chap said to me "how on earth have you still got your pint intact?"

"at £8 for a pint, it's staying firmly in its cup" (may not have been £8, but know it was bloody expensive at the time)

Ridiculous behaviour.

music gigs and festivals are terrible places to watch a match.

Exactly the same thing happened in the Cock & Pye in Ipswich, where I was probably watching the exact same match

When I went to watch DC United many years ago, they had a designated ‘beer shower’ area in the stand. Great idea to increase your bar sales.

The projector things looked like flat aircon units in those days and were of course totally vulnerable to beer bombardment.

I like the Cock & Pye. Not only was it a collection point for Mrs C and my mum after the match, but my dad and I used to frequent it sometimes - a long time ago now.

It seems to have become a more cringy forced thing in recent times. I get that people react and there's going to be a lot of spillage in the heat and chaos of the moment. I've had plenty of beer spilled on me! However, it's the pr1cks who aren't having a reflex reaction, but just launching pints for a lark because it now the done thing. Typically throwing them away rather than straight up (don't want to get doused with their own pint).

Spot on. I mean, this was happening for England's 1st goal in a group stage match. Just looks utterly false. If it had been a late winner in a more important game,I could understand it I guess.

But if you did, what beer would you choose? I imagine a Guinness or some other dark porter style would be horribly sticky and a pain to wash out. If you’ve got long luscious locks, you’d get horrible tangles too. Lager’s going to be smelling like a ‘spoons. I think I’d be hoping people had moved on to vodka shots. Cider would presumably smell ok?

Completely forced. Acting like you can't control yourself. A bit like when people "end up four rows forward of their seat" during the "limbs" at an away day.

I haven't been to one for a while where it happened, but it was a thing at some concerts and festivals but it wasn't drinks they were chucking about, at least not as the original drink source, more like what happened to the drinks later and deposited in the same container..(use your imagination)

Was always worth standing backwards of the stage for that reason.

At Oasis last summer, beer was thrown during every song. When I say beer, it was the same colour and came from plastic beer glasses. Glad I was wearing a bucket hat.
