Thats if we are not taken to penalties on Wednesday. Yes we are CAPABLE of beating them but we need to grow into this tournament with a morale boosting victory and performance.

The Azteca is a fabulous stadium in which to play but it's also >2000m above sea level which isn't going to be good for us at all. If we manage to get past that it could then be Brazil in the blazing heat of Florida. SB

Yes of course, there’s the altitude too. Ah well, no body said it would be easy. Brazil aren’t what they were if we get that far. I can’t judge us though, as we haven’t really been tested.

Brazil are far from what they were but they are probably better than us at handling the heat in Florida. We will see! SB

And then they’d have to potentially beat Norway. Brazil have a really tough route.

Was surprised by their weather forecast for Mexico City… multiple forecasts stating 24c and a bit of rain. Could be a factor in England performing - altitude aside.

It was 36c in Somerset last week, Mexicans don’t know how easy they have it.

I thought they had lost 8 out of 141? Either way, it's an incredible record and they certainly have the advantage with the altitude. Ah, those stats (49 matches) are for World Cup Qualifying specifically. SB

| By the looks of the world cup draw on 17:43 - Jun 28 with 1484 views | _CliveBaker_ | Yeah, incredibly tough game. Very strong opponent at the best of times, but with home advantage, the crowd, and the conditions it’s made even tougher. I’d make us 2nd favourites in that one. And for us suckers in the UK it’s at 1am on a Monday morning. | | | |
| By the looks of the world cup draw on 17:49 - Jun 28 with 1438 views | TheBoyBlue | And unfortunately at 1am on a Monday morning so no chance of being able to watch that. That's the nature of the competition being where it is though and it would be the first time - if we get through to that round - that I won't be in a position to watch an England game at a major tournament and the only one as far as I can make out which is on that late/early during this tournament, so hopefully I'll wake up to an England win and be able to enjoy the rest of the tournament! | |

| By the looks of the world cup draw on 18:10 - Jun 28 with 1366 views | armchaircritic59 | Well that would be interesting as since the Azteca opened in the 1960's Mexico have played 47 World Cup or World Cup qualifying games there and won 40 of them, lost 2 I believe. | | | |

I feel like this is the reason why Tuchel has sacrificed some of the previous mainstays and gone with more athletic players with a bit more physicality. As you say, we will see if that’s the correct call but Mexico looks an extremely tall order first (assuming we beat DRC).

I believe if you add non World Cup or World Cup qualifying games but still competitive matches ( not meaningless friendlies ) to the list, since the Azteca opened in the 60's they have played 85 and lost 2, just before this tournament started. If that's incorrect don't blame me, blame a stats guy at the BBC!

Don't disagree with that but Mexico at the Aztec have lost something like twice in the last 89 games. Whilst I don't think Mexico are particularly special the altitude is a massive advantage to them.
