Why is there so much hate for Bellingham, I really don’t understand it.

We always seem to shoot down our best players

Who can possibly say as there is no precedent whatsoever for young black British sportsmen and women being accused of arrogance selfishness and not knowing their place.

And white ones too. Beckham got absolutely destroyed by the public and media. But he grew up. Loads of players show an immature and petulant side when they’re younger. Most mature with age. Downes could be like it here, so it’s nothing new to us. Obviously if players are getting racially abused that’s very different and totally unacceptable.

Beckham got a redemption arc. Which similar black British sportsperson has one? Your idea that Jude has to grow up is deranged, he’s first choice for the biggest club in the world and for his country. The narrative around Jude Hamilton Sterling etc is the same we have seen for many young black players at Ipswich since Dalian.
I don’t care to argue about it anymore. I realise I am not changing any minds and am very boring on this topic, but I’m right.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

It's one of my least favourite Beatles songs. Can be a dreadful dirge, especially when sung by drunk people.

Dont think colour has anything to do with it.

I think it has a lot to do with it. Rashford, Saka and Bellingham are three of England’s (four?) best but they get absurd pelters.

Let’s be honest, it’s not just because he’s confident and young, it’s also because he’s very very good and looks good as well.

Jealously makes some people very insecure …especially if they are racist as well.

That’s my take too. There are inadequate losers in this world who feed off jealousy and love to hate.

I think he’s a fantastic player - the best to play for England in a very long time.

To me it widely seems to be press generated as he can't be bothered dealing with them, which is fair enough in my eyes. I've not met one person in real life who has a dislike for Bellingham.

I'm not arguing. He may well have a redemption arc too, but we'll just have to wait and see. It's highly likely he'll mature further too, as that's what people tend to do.

I'm commenting on his personality on the pitch, not his colour and there's no denying black players face issues white players don't. But skin colour also doesn't dictate character and I'm only commenting on his on-pitch character. He can face racial prejudice AND still have tantrums from time to time. The two can be true simultaneously.

I certainly wouldn't say no to him in a town shirt! A phenomenal talent and record for his age.

Cheeky bid time lol?

I like him, i do sometimes feel though that the commentators are primed ready to celebrate his performance regardless of how he actually does. imo i felt rashford was great the other game, but jude for some reason was getting all the plaudits again, I know he scored, but the commentators banged on abou what a start he'd been etc, i just felt it was really ott. But that's my only gripe and that's not really about him that's more about commentators.

He's black? I hadn't really realised that! I've genuinely never, ever thought about it. Just like Lewis Hamilton.

Me neither Vic. I just don’t think of people in that way.

They are good or bad, pleasant or unpleasant, do-ers or full of sht.

If people hate people they don’t know on the basis of any or all of skin colour, appearance, gender, nationality, age, jealousy then in my world they are nothing people. Little empty people.

The great Michael Holding had it right when he said in interview we’ve come a long way (and we have since I was a child) but we’ve a long way to go. The equally great Lindsey Vonn said when asked about her boyfriends ‘I don’t see colour’. They are both right.

People in England don't like players they perceive as over confident - especially if they're black.
But all top footballers have to be very confident to make it to that level and it's that drive he also has that made him carry England past Panama, all the top players in the world are very confident and have a big ego - we're lucky to have him!

He does come across as quite petulant on the pitch, but he gets us out of the doo doo time and time again so I can forgive that easily.

The guy looks so driven, which is why he plays for England and Real Madrid at 22 , some don’t like that. By all accounts a lovely guy off the pitch.

I’m pleased he plays for England that’s for sure.

I started to type a similar answer yesterday - without the petulance he'd be scary but overall it's forgivable when he's on your team.

Reckon there is an element of the Yaya Toure's about him too. He's quite leggy so sometimes looks like he's done stuff as much by mistake as design but the consistency shows the truth in that.

and she shacked up with Tiger Woods who is a mix of black, asian, white and native american. That is truly multi-racial. I remember seeing him in a skiing crowd looking and feeling very out of place. The only non-white face in a typical wholly white European skiing crowd. He admitted as much.

I don't think so, I like and also don't warm to people of all races. I don't warm to Bellingham and Lewis Hamilton for whatever reason, however I happily respect their supreme talents. But I like Saka and Rashford as well as many, many other non-white people. I think it is quite possible to dislike some one of another race without racism being remotely involved. The same numbskulls who slated Beckham in 98 are largely the same who slated Saka. There will be an added racial element, but if you ignore social media as I mainly do, it filters it out and I don't see that much racism. Nothing compared to the 70s.
