We do know sides like Spurs who didn’t know what league they were in until the last kick of the season, have signed five players. Sunderland who came up through the play offs had a plan, and had six lined up at this stage.
It is too early. But the links. The strategy, the vision, it DOES look like FM. In fact at least that would be a clear strategy.
I’m guessing we’re not going for young talented EFL players now. More copy Sunderland and look to France?

I think perhaps it’s a broad point about our (very poor relative to this level) recruitment .
The ‘but we were playing Morecombe recently’ complete and utter BULLSHIT.
What was tin pot league one about us. Our history? Our support? Our players .., some of whom dropped down to play for Paul Cook and were never league one players, you think Sam, Chappers, Walton, even Hirst Burgess Leif etc are league one players??
We had the biggest budget and stadium along with Sheff in the division.
So why on earth to you belittle us, pretend we were a tin pot league one club, to be measured against fleetwood, Morecombe, Forest Green - we had TEN TIMES their budget!!
And yes, we deserved a period at that level based on results.., but the same man (Ashton) struggled at that level, mid table! The same man you think is good enough to compete with the best in thr world now.
I’d suggest but for McKenna, Ashton might well still be scratching around at that level.
Clubs we were WAY ahead of in Ashtons tenure or just before have sailed past us - Leeds, Sunderland, Forest, and the Bournemouth’s Brighton’s Brentford’s simply do the value and recruitment TEN levels above where we are.

But we finished ABOVE Leeds. Then spent £150 million on players while they had debts of a similar value and couldn’t spend in the EFL.., so how has that aged the last two years??

The group you talk down, the set of scrubbers you show ZERO respect to, they were never league one!!!! They were a premier league team because THEY won promotion and earned the right!!!

This 25 is miles off this level, it’s behind the legacy group.
If you think league position is all that counts .., try measuring 96 points against 84!!! One group cost £3.50 the other over £200 million.
I’d suggest that implies the recruitment value has been awful!
And that’s by Ashtons own measures!!!
He says he wants 10 players and clearly want a LOT of his own signings out of the building, it does suggest he thinks his own recruitment has been way off this standard doesn’t it.

It’s not lack of opportunity. Promoted twice. It’s not lack of salary for a manager, paid champions league money, it’s not lack of investment, it’s over £200 million gross.
It is lack of quality and value in signings..

The ‘but we were playing Morecombe recently’ complete and utter BULLSHIT.
What was tin pot league one about us. Our history? Our support? Our players .., some of whom dropped down to play for Paul Cook and were never league one players, you think Sam, Chappers, Walton, even Hirst Burgess Leif etc are league one players??
We had the biggest budget and stadium along with Sheff in the division.
So why on earth to you belittle us, pretend we were a tin pot league one club, to be measured against fleetwood, Morecombe, Forest Green - we had TEN TIMES their budget!!
And yes, we deserved a period at that level based on results.., but the same man (Ashton) struggled at that level, mid table! The same man you think is good enough to compete with the best in thr world now.
I’d suggest but for McKenna, Ashton might well still be scratching around at that level.
Clubs we were WAY ahead of in Ashtons tenure or just before have sailed past us - Leeds, Sunderland, Forest, and the Bournemouth’s Brighton’s Brentford’s simply do the value and recruitment TEN levels above where we are.
You can happy clap. You can parrot Ashton trying to save his career, and say something something Morecombe.
But we finished ABOVE Leeds. Then spent £150 million on players while they had debts of a similar value and couldn’t spend in the EFL.., so how has that aged the last two years??
Sunderland?? They came on through the play offs while we were wasting £150 million on players to get far fewer points than our legacy group!!!!
The group you talk down, the set of scrubbers you show ZERO respect to, they were never league one!!!! They were a premier league team because THEY won promotion and earned the right!!!
Stop talking them down..,, great team, they would beat our £200 plus million (gross) replacements, so why don’t try critical evaluation, does it feel so bad to realise we were better value wise with the legacy group???
This 25 is miles off this level, it’s behind the legacy group.
If you think league position is all that counts .., try measuring 96 points against 84!!! One group cost £3.50 the other over £200 million.
I’d suggest that implies the recruitment value has been awful!
And that’s by Ashtons own measures!!!
He says he wants 10 players and clearly want a LOT of his own signings out of the building, it does suggest he thinks his own recruitment has been way off this standard doesn’t it.
Stop happy clapping and apply some basic critical evaluation. This group is way off .., that’s not a controversial statement, it’s what Mark Ashton believes and knows, or why else does he want TEN new signings.
After the £200 odd million spent, when other clubs HAVE worked the oracle and signed players for this level, with less money than us, I’d say it’s anxious to anyone with a two brain cells to see that recruitment and Marks role in it is 100% the problem.
It’s not lack of opportunity. Promoted twice. It’s not lack of salary for a manager, paid champions league money, it’s not lack of investment, it’s over £200 million gross.
It is lack of quality and value in signings..
Happy to list the failures and the fees.., we’ve paid for EFL level players way below this standard what others pay for world class talent from abroad.

It’s not. The basic worst level of recruitment at this level, to get 30 points and be relegated, is still many levels above where Mark is.
But yeah. We once played Morecombe.., and we’re in the southern leagues once, so that’s ok to waste a generational talented manager and resources.
I’ve never seen anyone with such a low opinion of our club than you, other than Mark when he’s under pressure.
We had twice the budget of Plymouth that season, and not a single league one player kicked a ball for us in the premier league and except Leif.
Adjusted for money spent, our 22 points is the worst in history at this level.., and all our team were championship and international talent.., we just bought very badly if we wanted to compete.
And I suspect we’ll rinse and repeat with the same man, making the same mistakes, with panic as our strategy, which seems now it’s copying Sunderland.
Maybe next time we can copy whoever else did well the season before - hard to defend that as a vision for our great club.., would prefer other clubs looking towards our model (build a club around one man).

This isn’t what elite, visionary, strategic development looks like - it’s literally the opposite of Leeds, Sunderland, Forest, Brentford, Bournemouth, Brighton etc etc

You don’t ‘get’ football.., these opportunities, they don’t come along often, need to make the most of them, set the highest standards, because that’s the minimum required for survival at this level:
Leeds sign Wilson, Suzuki, Spurs sign 6 players - these are our competition.., you want Nick Pope and his one working leg, to be exit liquidity for Newcastle to laugh at.
You. Are. Small. Small minded in the extreme.
Our club is bigger than you, better then you, has more ambition than you, we can play in Europe again, but not with support like yours, that normalises failure and nothing with Mark Ashton in charge of recruitment. |
