Astounding that he can do this, and a clear example how rattled he is. Much like the bizarre rant at Sky News and lies about his daughter which they debunked.
I don’t like how Burnham triggered his by election but this is far worse. Farages crypto backers and criminals should fit the bill for this. It’s an obscene waste of money and completely pointless.
I get the thick and the racist will lap up his lukewarm MAGA style slop, but surely his popularity must be waning after this.
There is also the possibility that he is hoping for some glorious failure - "Well, I tried, but it shows that the establishment and the mainstream media...." and so on.
If he loses, he's going to make an absolute packet from the loons in the US. He can be a guest speaker or "an expert on UK politics" for years. And with greatly reduced scrutiny.
Problem is with that though is that it might backfire, and he wins. I remain convinced this was Johnson's plan over Brexit. A heroic failure against the establishment, and he was horrified when Leave won. Look at that press conference the morning after when Cameron quits. Both he and Gove give an air of "Crap. What have we done?!"

First line is demonstrably true.
I'm not showing any colours. Just observing!
Farage has political instinct.
Labour right has none.
The Labour Party is a broad church, it is more than just the right of centre pragmatists. Going back a long way now but I think there's a line or two in this song that applies to you:

Because he can now point at this new election and go "look, people still support me!" and brush off any criticism.
I don’t see how that’s clever. His supporters are going to support him whatever he does. Nobody else is going to be fooled/distracted and at best he only postpones the parliamentary standards investigations into him (I think he’s up to two now, possibly three). It will change nothing and introduces a risk of losing the by-election. If that’s seen as smart we must have the dumbest people in Westminster.

Nope. It's the best move he could have made.
He is back in control of the narrative with it and if Labour and Tories don't stand it might seem clever to the commentariat but won't wash well with most people.
Plus he's declared open war on the media who are not exactly flavour of the month in the country at the moment.

You're saying that a nakedly tactical political move in response to a nakedly tactical political move won't wash with the electorate? Seriously, are you calling the people of Clacton stupid?
Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa

He'll increase his vote share there.

It still doesn’t change anything. If he wins he’s still an MP. Racists will still like him. He’ll still play the victim and whinge about the media and freedom of speach and the woke, blah, blah, blah. He’ll still claim popular support. He’ll still be dodgy as fook. He won’t escape the scrutiny of the parliamentary system and will still have the existing complaints hanging over his head (and likely new ones that arise in the meantime as more of his dodgy dealings are uncovered).
He’s desperately hoping people are stupid enough to stop looking at his corruption and get distracted by-election battle instead. I’m not convinced that’ll work now the allegations are in the mainstream and formal complaints by MPs are being submitted. We’ll see, but it feels like the Met is starting to close in on him.

I am not entirely sure campaigning during a heatwave against Count Binface is going to help his narrative.

Reporter to Nige “How is the campaign that you triggered because of all the questions about your alleged corruption going, are you confident of beating Count Binface…….good point Count, very important,…. do you think Emma Hayes should replace Alan Shearer Nigel”
