Hmmmmmmmmmm.
I watched last night's Newsnight (a programme which has already declined in quality after the BBC's decision to cut its investigative reporting and turn it into a short political chat show) with dismay.
These are febrile times for a reason. The planet is burning, Britain is politically dysfunctional and yet the commentariat amuse themselves with tittle tattle.
Binface once would have been a footnote. Now he's the story.
There's absolutely no interest in understanding what's happening and what has happened in Britain.
It's as if the London 2012 Olympics was the 'end of history' moment for the chattering classes in this country.
We're in trouble! And yet there's no curiosity at all. I find it all very unsettling. |

I actually agree with BelsteadCav here.
The liberals aren't interested in argument or debate anymore. It was depressing to see the Today programme and Newsnight hosting huge Binface sections on their programmes and chortling along.
The country is in dire straits and there's no interest in anything of substance. There is a crisis in liberalism which has been exposed as empty nowadays.
The 'we need a grown up politics' seem to be the same lot now giving themselves a hernia over a Have I Got News For You level joke from a BBC comedy writer.
And there's a particular kind of smugness in the Richard Osman centrist Dad archetype which is incredibly dangerous I think.
Binface was perhaps vaguely amusing the first time. He's not going to win the by election. So what is going on?
I think the other parties will regret not running.
It's the People's Vote brigade again and I can't believe they are making the same mistake.

Because serious people who actually want to get on with doing stuff don't want to validate the biggest hissy fit in political history, don't want to validate NF trying to stall or derail a legitimate enquiry into his funding, realise that they will almost certainly have to do this again in a few months time anyway and object to the huge waste of money this is going to be.
