What was said / or did that he didn’t fit in with dressing room- baring in mind some have left?
| Sammie Szmodics on 15:46 - Jul 14 with 3651 views | jas0999 | There was a reason why the club wanted him out quickly in January. In the end we took a loan just to see him depart. MA will know those reasons. I’d be amazed if Sammie stays. Questionable whether he’s good enough as well. Wasn’t last time. Couple of good games. | | | |

Why would it matter that some have left? Quite a strange way of looking at things. SB [Post edited 14 Jul 15:50]

The narrative was more that whatever he did was against the standards of the club. People leaving doesn't change that. I don't think he's good enough anyway, we are two years further down the line and he wasn't great on loan. I think we will be looking for better. SB

Does he though? He's two years older than the last time we were in the Prem and really didn't impress last year. Derby fans apparently aren't fussed about him coming back. Time moves on. I'm really hopeful we aren't reliant on him coming off the bench as an impact attacking player this season. SB

Underlined by the lack of talk of him heading back there. Not good enough for the Prem and for me, one we release before the transfer deadline if we haven’t sold him.

The other day someone on here was arguing in favour Akpom, some people said they were happy to leave the back 4/GK completely as it was and not make any additions. Szmodics was awful when he played for us last season and not much better for Derby.

Completely agree. It’s worrying. I don’t understand some peoples thinking. Azon is the latest … people want him back. Five goals in the championship. We need to spent another £150M just to stand a chance!
| Sammie Szmodics on 20:32 - Jul 14 with 1924 views | WicklowBlue | Not for me, gave it a go in the prem but as others have said rumours about issues in house and going out on loan when we needed everyone pulling together in the Champ last year. On the flip side he did have an injury didnt he? Shirley we need to be looking at upgrades all across the front players. SS is a decent counter attack physical player but need more than our last EPL attempt. | | | |

We might need more than a goal or two. Amazed by how many purple don’t realise how far away 22 points was last time, and that this group are probably worse than the legacy group, or not a lot in it. Leeds and Sunderland, had no legacy money, and one came up through the oaky offs. They both signed players easily good enough for this level, and a fair amount of oakhers too, 10 in Sunderland’s case quality oakhers, and both signed ‘halo’ players early in the window with bags of experience at this level. They set the standard and tone. We aren’t staying up by tying up resources and squad places with players like Sammie who everyone in the game knows isn’t good enough at this level, he might not even get a top EFL club, and that isn’t a reason to keep him!! It’s validation he needs to leave and we made a mistake, as we did with Ogbenne, Walle, Greaves, McAteer, Johnson, Akpom. If they stay…, it’ll be another seasons where it would take us over two seasons to match the points of our competition. Millwall and Oxford aren’t our competition. If they were, I’d make you right. Against Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford, Leeds. Sunderland, Fulham, at least one of which we’ll need to finish above, this risk here are five levels below the required standard. Why tie our own arms behind our back and double down on mistakes out of pure ego and stubbornness - it’s a skill to remedy mistakes quickly, it’s carnage to keep doubling down. They aren’t good enough, any of them, they’re self selected by definition as not good enough.., there’s a reason Sunderland went for quality abroad, and found olayers that took them to Europe while we looked to this group and 22 points. Same same isn’t an option (if we want relative success) I think many of our fans are terrified of what’s required to be a success at this level. Change. Tough decisions. Risk. They’d prefer inertia, safety, no risk, and playing WBA every year, or Morecombe. We have the resources to be world class, but you don’t get there by only having money, you need skill, execution, and talent off the pitch. We’re short, we built our club around Mark, or allowed him to do that, that’s not what every other club that’s succeeded at this level has done. That’s the risk I’m happy clapping and inertia. We need quality players, there isn’t a ‘maybe Akpom is good enough’ option.

If Azon is going to the Championship for £8m, we should cash in now on him
| Sammie Szmodics on 09:19 - Jul 15 with 1330 views | HighgateBlue | Short answer: no. Longer answer: the league season kicks off in a week and a month. Losing our manager in really odd circumstances has clearly set us back. Set us back compared with an already really difficult situation of having to overhaul our side to try to compete in the Prem. We seem to be stuck in a trap whereby we can't get new players in quickly enough, then they don't have any time to gel as a team before the season kicks off and we're behind the 8 ball. Because we have been changing divisions, there is always a lot of transfer business to do. We have a fair few players in SS's situation, namely they have been acquired at chunky fees or on chunky wages, appear not to be favoured, or not up to it in the top flight, and yet it will be hard to get rid and not make a huge loss. If this were a computer game, you could simply move on the ones you don't want and re-fill the squad. It's going to take an awful lot of work to do that in real life. There are so many players who have at least a question mark against them. SS was shipped off on loan. Whether there's more to it, or whether it's just a footballing issue, KMc didn't want him in the Champ. It's wishful thinking that he might be /more/ suited to the Prem. No idea what's gonna happen with Akpom but we clearly wouldn't have signed him if we had the choice. The right side is plain weird - Burns is rightly a favourite. But we also have McAteer (expensive) and Egeli (even more so), anddd we know that KMc was trying to bring in Azeez in that position. Who on earth do we move on, and how, if that area is still considered to need improvement? Mehmeti and Nunez were not unmitigated successes in the Champ, and must be question marks in the Prem. Personally I would keep JClarke and Philogene as we need some kind of stability in the squad, and I think they've earned the right to be trusted. Unless we get a crazy bid, or they desperately want away (see Philogene's change of agent). And that's just the attacking part of the team. There's so much work to do and very little has been crystallized so far. We can't know what is progressing behind the scenes, and what has come to a dead end. But I just think there are so many unknowns and moving parts, it's difficult to predict what will happen. In SS's case, we may need to just take a real financial hit and get rid. It would be surreal for him to be out of favour last year and in favour in the Prem. I can't see it. But there are so many moving parts and so little business done so far (we've really only replaced Azon/Delap with Emersonn) that I find it very hard to know what on earth will happen. | | | |

Szmodics was less out of his depth in the PL than a few of our players - Chaplin, Philogene, Clarke for instance, despite being played out of position. I think we need better than him to have a chance of staying up, but with a new boss, it's possible we could draw a line under the off-field issues & he might have a part to play as a squad filler.
