All the club is able to do is identify potential targets, try to see if they are available and then start the process. The selling clubs and players agents will be holding fire on saying yes or no until later to see who else bids or what other moves happen.
It’s the same every transfer window. If the club pulled the plug on a move every time there was not an immediate yes from player and club then we would not buy anyone.

There’s only so many PL ready players who are available and who want to move to a team which are relegation favourites. And those that are available will probably have a few other teams interested in them. |  | | |

Well only thanks to Boro's late season collapse, we did just get by as far as the auto's were concerned. No doubt lessons have been learned that you can't go into a new season with the " G " word ringing in your ears. Never want to hear it again and absolutely no excuses for it. Do that in the PL and you're goose is cooked before it's got in the oven! On the plus side, there is still a reasonable amount of time to go. I expect the chain of command is as usual somewhat blocked up when it comes to transfer windows. Club A wants to by a player from club B, club B agrees in principle but won't let him go until a replacement is secured from club C. Club C however....... well you get the picture. |  | | |

A month ago Ashton said we had a few deals well down the line but waiting the new manager's approval. I assume that GON didn't like the list he was presented with.
Which echoes McKenna's dissatisfaction with the striker options he was presented with in January. Maybe our recruitment team need to do better? |  |

I also don't accept the argument that some other clubs have only signed one player as well, we need players more than practically everyone in this league.

We are a Premiership Club and can afford to buy new players with decent wages BUT we are also among relegation favourites , Not a household name in Europe and the wider world, are not in a fashionable part of the Country for players to live and although hopefully GON may prove a good manager we no longer have K Mc who players wanted to work with to improve. That means that we will not be first choice club for almost any Prem ready player who is available as they will be hoping for a 'better' club to come in for them. Two years ago it was much easier hoovering up top Championship players who wanted to play in the Prem. This time I think we have got to be a bit more patient to see who is thought surplus once English & European Squads get back into serious training. | | | |
