Hurts, but getting to the semi final is still brilliant 22:16 - Jul 15 with 1013 viewsMullet

There’s no easy way to go out, and with the final being so close it hurts a lot. But those boys had some great moments and did stuff like Mexico against the odds. Especially in a tournament away from Europe, to take the defending champions this far will look better in the morning.

Given we were patching the side game after game for different reasons, compared to France to just collapsing last night there’s still lots to proud of overall for me.

Doesn’t make the last 30 mins any easier though.

Tend to agree,
In hindsight and that's slightly negative why oh why go defensive against a class team,
Keep doing what we were gaps would have appeared and we also would have had chances, shame it's football,
Put in perspective atrocities going on in our world,
So tomorrow's another day,

I grew up with England not being involved in the latter stages of tournament, sometimes not even qualifying for them. So I have to remind myself that these are still giddy heights.

However, this feels like such a missed opportunity (again). A team with Kane, Bellingham, Rashford off the bench, etc, deciding to sit back and defend a 1-0 lead.

It doesn’t make it any easier at all. Given where we were in the game to then what happened, that’s far worse than France’s effort last night. France were undone from the start by a superior team. We were undone by shooting ourselves in the foot and bottling it.

It could have been a lot worse. People are getting very reactionary. We battled like warriors every game. Maybe too defensive but look at our stats. Gazza was an icon after 1990, he never scored!!!!

Bellingham, Kane, Gordon, big Dan Burn, Madueke, Spence (he was mostly great tonight!), Rice, Anderson. They are all heroes and gave us moments of great joy!!

For me, previously I’ve been proud and gutted.

Today I’m just angry. Absolutely awful from Tuchel.

At 1 - 1, surely you change things, the momentum was all theirs

We made the changes, we could have made at 75 mins with 4 minutes to go?

Missing madueke is an interesting point as they were terrified of us running at them.

It’s easy to look at it and talk about the subs being wrong etc and it’s really frustrating but I do think we had so many places in the side that were unsettled and managed to plug them.

Still don’t know why mainoo, Rashford even Saka weren’t deployed and deployed earlier

Kane was out on his feet after 60 minutes and Watkins is far more mobile than tony

Just said in another thread - 4th in the FIFA rankings, so Semi isn't "brilliant" but it is par at least.

Semi final was minimum, weve played DR Congo, Mexico and Norway.. First good team we come up against and we fold. Same old story.

Gutted about last night, but semi finalist in the world Cup is an amazing achievement. We should have won though and who knows what we could have done. Still hurts today and I'm avoiding all news. If there's a end of life extinction event in the next 48hrs can someone let me know? Ta x

Semi Finals in two of the last three World Cups and finalists in the last two Euros is an up-tick and certainly an improvement on the Golden Generation who proved to be nothing more than big time charlies who couldn’t play as a team.

But last night felt like a missed opportunity, with Tuchel proving to be no more than Southgate mk II.

Hired a gaffer to get over the hump, couldn't get it done.

England won the games they were expected to.

Decent but not brilliant imho.

Country ranked 4th in the world reaching the semi finals feels about par to me

It’s not brilliant.

Southgate turned us into a team where latter stages of tournaments are now an expectation.

Tuchel was hired to add to that. Taking the lead with 30 plus added time and then pulling everyone behind the ball and throwing on all your defenders is completely unacceptable.

I don’t think for a minute we’d beat this Spain side but we should be facing them.

Trailing vapour since 1999.
