Would be a sensible signing. Isn’t the most mobile but offers lots of value on the ball and is decent defensively. Two year deal would be perfect but image the player is looking for a 3 year deal.

SO you're only demotion for a good first team player to a good squad player is the fact he's played in Portugal?
Even though its one of the top teams in that league and they get reasonably far in the champions league?
So if he'd have played for Rennes for 5 years, he would be better?
If you think these kind of players are "squad" players then I think you might be disappointed this season.

In terms of a Top 5 European league, he hasnt played in one.
Some early Champions League appearances. You have to remember, early round CL matches are often against teams who are not PL level opposition.
Like I say, OK if a squad player, but it doesnt excite me. |

Haha yeah the Idea Ipswich would be signing 40 cap internationals who played in the champions league QF only last season to be squad filler is crazy.
I think a few are going to be disappointed if they expect more tbh, given our current status.
We are going to be last choice for many top level players along with the other promoted sides. Which means we will have to take risks and box clever with our signings this season. | | | |

Like I said, I would judge young players differently.
A huge amount of the best young talent start at smaller clubs before being poached by better teams. | |

We need experienced players right now and in this position so why not.
However.... he missed out on the WC this summer due to injury concerns so ups and downs with this potential singing. |

Absolutely not. The lad knows ball. He's been a regular player for one of the biggest clubs in Portugal for 4 years.
I know Leeds were taking a very serious look at him this summer. |
I'm not concerned at all that he's been playing in Portugal, and it seems that he himself is leaving there in order to have a crack at a bigger league.
However, do we know why he missed out on the world cup squad? Sees a little incongruous if he is genuinely going to be a force in the Premier League. |  | | |

Xhaka does have a stellar pedigree.
I've not said I'm against this signing, just that I wasnt entirely sold.

Honestly, don't slate a player/signing unless you really know what he's about.
This is a really good fit for our pivot. Metronomic player who rarely misplaces a pass or a tackle. Great positional sense. It's like Luongo with even better talent/pedigree. |
