Things coming together now the WC has concluded... 08:44 - Jul 20 with 2104 viewstractorboy1978

Almost like Ashton was being honest and several deals were 'down the line' waiting on other matters.

You have to say that this would represent a very good window at this stage:

Scherpen
Van Oeuvelen
Diop
Morita
Fatawu
Emersonn

Hard to disagree with that. I'd probably feel a little more comfortable with an experienced striker through the door but I'd imagine that will take a bit more time and we still have plenty of it.

Five of those six deals are yet to be announced .... but it looks promising on all counts!

It's almost like we have a team of very capable professionals who know what they are doing. Who knew .... haha

Ashton and honest in the same sentence, hot take!

Except at least one of those isn’t likely to happen for now and was a last minute opportunity presented to us by the agent.

When Ashton said that, we had other targets in the mix. I’m not sure it really works to come back to what he said ages ago and use this as proof.

It’s really obvious the bloke will say anything and is prone to bullsh1tting, it’s more what he does, or in this case, Werhun et al get done.

But what are you praising him for exactly? We all know we need signings and we’re going to make some? It’s a bit weird to have this take then get all arsey like this.

I get that I wish he’d been gotten rid of, but there seems a weird desire to praise him for anything on here. When to quote Keane that’s (sort of) his job.

It's a decent start to the window if all of those come through. After that I guess we're looking at the following

Starting Striker
Starting Right-Back
Midfielder
Left Back
Centre Back (if we're going with the 3-4-2-1)
Left Winger (if Philogene goes)

There have been numerous flouncy threads/comments on here re Ashton's 'down the line on several deals' comments being bullsh!t. And several on here said you can be down the line and need other dominoes to fall to finalise deals. I'm not praising him, just stating that funnily enough it all seems to be coming together as the WC finishes. Who would have thought?

I get MA is Brent-esque and might be a bit marmite, but I could equally say that the desire of several on here to rubbish anything he says is equally a bit weird.

But that’s just conflating a load of stuff to have a pop at people. It’s a really weird take.

Everyone knows the tournament is going to be the floodgate for movement across the whole game. I don’t really get why you’re praising Ashton with something he said weeks ago that clearly wasn’t anything other than him running his mouth.

If anything, those people are right as he was making out we’d have way more in now than we have and that’s what has made him look a bit silly.

On your final paragraph, no. If anything, it's making people who misinterpreted Ashton's comments look silly. PL signings, especially those when there are rival clubs also sniffing, don't take hours to complete. You're just using it as a stick to beat Ashton because you don't like Reform. It's okay, I'd just rather you admitted that.

Eh? I’m more than open about the fact he should have been sacked and more because he lied. It’s unforgivable and weird people not only defend it, but laud him for it now.

I don’t think you can “misinterpret” what he said as it was clear he was trying to get fans excited and onboard. As well as trying to show he was doing a great job publicly. He was stupid to do it, and pretending it was the fans fault when he’s the one communicating (badly by your own admission) is just pointless and divisive.

People coming back now and going “see?!?” Then getting the hump when a bit of logic is used, seems to be because they’re not being open as you put it. Regardless of your views on the bloke, it’s ok to say he probably shouldn’t have said that and it was ill judged.

Like I said, you are always right so it isn't really worth debating to be honest.

I was just trying to work that one out and assumed it was Morita but that was a 'TWTD Understands' jobbie.

Not sure anyone is defending Ashton for what he did that deserved a sacking, and they certainly aren't lauding him for it. You're conflating two separate things there.

But I make you right that he shouldn't have said the 'well down the line' quote, should have kept his mouth shut. Truthfully, there's no telling if he was talking about any of the players we are close to signing or not, I suspect Diop might have been one, purely from the point its come so suddenly after the WC finished. But neither one of us know.

There’s one racist troll who still pops up every thread to praise him I’m sure they will be “in” here at some point but yes maybe so.
