Has Zack Polanski gone too far?

A simple yes or no will suffice.

Sometimes I think about the frothing lunatics I’ve put on ignore, who will have kept replying to me again and again, but I don’t even realise they exist.

So do you call (Mr) Duncan-Smith a MrsThatcherite?

Touche!

But I don't regard the term Thatcher and Thatcherite as being the same in terms of abuse.

Of course, I think you had to be there and actively engaged in politics to fully understand what I am trying to say but it is interesting that a throwaway line in a post making a much broader point has produced so much kick-back.

I was engaged and there.

My point was also throw-away, it just happens to have prompted several replies - that’s not the same as ’kickback’. I simply believe in treating m & f politicians the same.

For my part I saw a chance to be a smartass and took it, sorry.

The rest of this thread has been varying degrees of nonsense and nonsense defence TBH, what you wrote was the interesting thing

I don't really understand this argument, tbh. It usually comes from right of centre media who want to "put the greens into their box" perhaps in order to more easily control them, or just to limit discourse.

The Anthropocene is not just an issue that sits under "green issues". It is deeply related to economy, societal structures, inequality, transport, energy, and even global geopolitics and military. Things do not segment in this way, especially when "green" is now all-encompassing.

Indeed, I would even argue it is impossible to discuss "green" issues without profoundly and meaningfully tackling all the other issues, as it is not a problem that can be solved in isolation.

You make a good case for why the Greens need to chat in holistic terms, but to me, it does feel like they spent more time talking about Palestine than pretty much anything else. Obviously, that's a big issue, but personally, I don't see why it should be a defining one for British politics.

I agree - but can’t recall ZP ever referring to boosting the green economy, eating more healthily both for our own sakes and the NHS’s, renovating homes to address the housing crisis, or any other part of everyday life that politicians are in charge of and which could help mitigate climate change & environmental issues, but currently don’t.

Maybe I haven’t been paying attention, in which case all links from whoever would be greatly appreciated, tia :)

I agree green issues are intertwined with many things, especially the economy.

But listening to ZP and looking at what issues he pushes hard on - he seems to talk a lot more on many topics without bringing them back to the green issues.

Maybe it's a function of trying to get heard with just 140 characters - maybe it's him responding to the public discourse? And I know it's partly cos he's trying to reach out to get more votes.

But this week will be yet more of the same. He will be defending (and apologising) for his actions on social media with respect to an offensive/insensitive t-shirt rather than about rather more pressing issues.

I know the greens are more than a one issue party, but it would be nice to hear them talking a bit more about traditional green issues.

Yep, have positions on the economy/foreign policy etc. but surely their focus should be all about the environment?

I agree. I'm full on with the socialist fundamentals, and completely agree with basis of the social justice and rights stance, but environmental issues are actually the biggest problems we (and the rest of the world) have or are going to have very soon, and the Green Party should be reflecting that above and beyond everything else.

Polanski has done a great (and necessary) PR job in some ways, but I'd rather we had a Lucas/Denyer/Ramsay hand on the tiller too.

Plenty of “lefties” have said they don’t approve of that post, in response to a poster that is centre right.

So not sure how that makes this site a hard left site.

As a “rightie” surely you will be voicing your disapproval of the Reform councillor who wanted another politician shot, Nigel Farage for talking about taking up a rifle, Lucy Connelly for wanting to burn down migrants and politicians, and a poster on here that wanted to machine gun human beings seeking asylum.

I doubt he was referring to this thread only and disagree with him its 'hard' left, but there's no denying its dominated by those on the political left

Maybe they would be able to discuss Palestine less if any single one of the other main parties bothered at any point to. I mean, it is now a recognised Genocide, and it's extremely weird and worrying that most politicians and parties seem just find about that. In all honesty, I am glad that Greens are not joining that path and pretending it's not happening.

Fair enough - it means that much to you and as a green voter, they're doing right by you, so in a way, who am I to question that?

I do however wonder how that concentration on one external issue goes down with joe bloggs in a struggling market town, who has his own day to day issues to worry about.

I also doubt how much control over Israel we could ever have, even with a Green govt in place.

Oh, because he's not right-wing it's just a mistake? Yeah, OK.

There are a few on here who seem completely unaware of their own lack of self-awareness or their inability to see beyond the end of their own nose. It's all snide comments and acting like they're on the right side of every debate.

Between this thread and the Berlin attack one, watching people bend over backwards trying to pin everything on the right has been quite something. If it wasn't so funny to watch, it'd be painful.

What has left or right got to do with it, and where have I said it's just a mistake because he's not right wing?

I look at the facts and make a decision. He was added to a post that contained 20 photographs, one of which had an offensive slogan/image on someone's T-shirt. I think it reasonable that most people can be forgiven for not studying every picture and spotting it. If he'd just reposted that picture it would be entirely different, but he didn't, and it certainly wasn't as obvious as made out in the OP.

So with the context added, it's a mistake.

I think you're projecting and actually thinking the worst because he's left wing.

And I never cease to be amazed at how some people on here can remotely read the minds of other posters!

You don't need to be a mind reader to see what Glassers is doing, just modicum of intelligence and a healthy dose of scepticism. It also helps if the poster is well known for this sort of thing. Several people have seen through it.

If you think Glassers posts things innocently and with no agenda then more fool you.

Brilliant post.

Polanski's social media admin (if you think the leader of a modern political party has the time and skill to post on Instagram, you're a fool) has shared this without properly scanning all 20 images within it. Is that a mistake? Of course. Is it a big one? Honestly, not really. Collaborating on one Instagram post is a quick job.

ZP has owned the mistake, condemned the t-shirt... and we probably have two days of front page news about this, yet again distracting from anything remotely of importance in this country that's heading for a cliff edge.

Well said.
