Fken driving instructor for me son's test tomorrow
"Alright mate, sorry i can't do tomorrow morning session but I can meet you there to let you use the car"
I know my lad is ok about the test, but not having a lesson before hand i'm worried it's gonna throw him right off.
In regards to taking him out myself, my car's Auto so i cant.
Anyone had instances of taking the test without a lesson prior? I had an hour myself and it just seemed to be the norm

I’m guessing your lad has been put in for his test because he’s deemed proficient at driving
The only purpose for the lesson proper is to freshen stuff up

Try and look at the positives of it…
Straight into the test fresh, nothing from that lesson before to put him off for whatever reason.
He must’ve been deemed competent for a test so sure he will be fine.
Tell him to just take it easy, always look in the mirrors and don’t speed  |  |

How is it he can’t do the pre test lesson, but can be there to hand the car over for the test ? To be honest I think it’s a bit unprofessional to get your son booked in then cancel at the last minute like that. He must have known about your son’s test date and time for quite a while now.

The lesson he misses is simply a refresher and a warm up
The step son has just gone through the same process 4-5 weeks ago. He did have his lesson before but said he didn’t need it. I wouldn’t have said he was overly proficient either to be fair but he passed with one minor error.

Back in the days of the Model T Ford, I’d had two tests cancelled on the day (weather and Test bloke being ill). When the test took place it was a last minute job and there was no time for a pre test hour. The Instructor just met me at the centre with the car and off I went with the test bloke. Tbh, I didn't feel I wanted it or needed it and given I passed, I guess I was right.
Your son will be absolutely fine. If he wasn’t capable, he wouldn’t be taking the test. Good luck to him! |  | | |

Day I had my test I did the pre test lesson. We got to the test centre only to find part of the back bumper had fell off ! Driving instructor leapt into the driving seat,me in passenger seat and we raced around Bury St Edmunds looking for the back bumper. Found it. He wired it back on some how,we raced back to test centre I just got in the door and my name was called out first ahead of others waiting to go out. I was first out of the test centre from the batch they were doing and I was first back. I passed and still to this day remember nothing of the test at all. I was just in panic mode when that all happened. How I passed I will never know. | | | |

Look at it the other way Frimmers - he could have a lesson, clip the curb or something, and be in a right state for his test.

Spooky. My boy’s got his driving test tomorrow too. Are you me or am I you? I don’t know who should be more afraid…
I wouldn’t worry. Yes, a warm-up would be nice, but he’s not going to learn anything in an hour before the test. I wouldn’t make a big thing of it, as keeping him calm and positive is probably more important. Is it a bit odd that the instructor is going to be able to get there to drop the car off for the test but couldn’t make it even 20 or 30 mins early for a bit of a warm-up? Maybe, but things crop up. People have a lesson before their test? Either you can drive or you can't by that stage. Instructor must be confident as he put him in for the exam. |  |

The day I did mine, there was an examiner examiner in the back. Think the bloke taking the test was more nervous than me.
I passed, despite stalling at a roundabout, but only because I'd been warned by the driving instructor that if they start getting you to pull over and drive away for no apparent reason, it's because they think you aren't looking enough. So I started very obviously gawping in the mirrors, rather than just glancing. |  |
