It's almost as if the way the football ecosystem tends to work is that each club want to have the replacement through the door before they will finalise an exit. So Hirst wont go until we have a replacement. That replacement won't arrive until they have been replaced. And so on.

Hence why these things take forever and you can't sign everyone you want in the first fortnight of a transfer window like its football manager.

I'd prefer Hirst to stay as no3 - he performed well in the PL when he had space to run into - excellent away at Brentford, Chelsea & Everton. Low blocks faced at PR last season are not his game at all.

Will be very hard to convince someone better to sign to be third choice imo and we have so much to do elsewhere anyway.

I guess Akpom could be third choice, but he performed nowhere near as Hirst last season.

I agree with your assessment regarding the low block, but he also struggled to hold up the ball. That will only be more difficult in the Premier League. I think he needs a fresh start at another club, as his confidence seems completely shattered.

It is takes forever as you suggest and the first game is in 3 weeks then we aren't doing very well are we right now if our 2nd striker cannot move to lowly Stoke (no offence Stoke fans) as we don't have a suitable player to take his place in the squad.

Akpom?

In the premier league as an actual player we would rely on to score goals on a weekly basis?

If we paid 9m for SS, then 15 - 20 m. Gods knows it's all silly money.

O' Rourke is saying Loan with an option - that makes absolutely no sense for us unless we are confident we are getting 2 more in.

I really don't know, if he is a PL striker he would already be playing there more than likely as he is 30 and been around the block.

Although McKenna never played Akpom or Egeli on their proper position which never helped either of them.

I read a thread the other day suggesting Egeli was a 10, but he was signed a RW and now no one really knows what do to with him and the lad himself looks confused on the pitch.

These coaches are paid well to know what do to with players so hopefully they know best longer term.

But if we could get 15m/20m for him that would be a great bit of business

This news suggests to me that we have a new first choice number 9 lined up.

As others have said there is no way we let Hirst go without someone else coming in, and for that person to be a back up to a back up just doesnt seem credible. AAH played with the reserves on Wednesday so he will not be the plan. We are also not 100% certain whether we will play one up top the whole time. Factor in how raw Emersonn is, this news suggests that we are getting lined up for someone to come in.

Number three striker will probably be a mix of Akpom (if he is here), Egeli (if he is here), Enciso (if we have got him in) or Maeda I reckon.

Surely you cant genuinely believe we would get £15-20m for Hirst hahaa

Be stunned if we got more than £5m

Was Egeli signed as a RW? I thought he was signed as an ‘attacker’, which he is. Happy to be corrected.

Hirst is a good player who was by no means the worst performer in the Premier League last time. He has served this club well and his form was returning at the end of last season.

However, a percentage of the haters have taken against him, including ridiculing him when substituted. Stoke is a good club with a loyal fanbase and if he wants to go there, we should let him.

He’s 27 and needs to be playing, not shining his rear end on the bench.

which is why we should keep him at present; his goals per minute (admittedly overwhelmingly from the bench) was up there with delap's in the prem.

we'd struggle to replace that with 5m and his wages

He's been a great player, but there were chunks of last season where he wasn't performing at a level expected for the Championship let alone Premier League.

I think we can upgrade.
