Are we doing better than we think? 09:01 - Aug 2 with 3494 viewsRIPbobby

Im kind of confused after watching yesterday's highlights if you look carefully we have nine very good chances and we only score two of them. The post was in the way and their keeper made a couple of good saves and we had done a couple of bad finishes really. If I'm being honest I was listening to the audio from Wycombe's own people and it sounded like we didn't play very well at all. But the highlights tell something different.
I know the directors can show you exactly what they want to show you and that's probably what happened I do seem to remember that Palmer made a couple of very good saves to keep them out. So perhaps things are not too bad. Quite interesting what Furlong said about us working on things. So i guess we are currently a McKenna team transitioning into a GON team. I am quietly encouraged by this. Exciting times.

It was Wycombe Wanderers and hardly a game to draw too many conclusions from IMHO.

We have always made chances we just don't have a prolific striker that can convert to that '20 goals a season' kind of player. In saying this not sure that was KM tactics though as the goals were spread out.

Its not just about that striker tho

Yesturday between both games

Burns. Somehow missed sitter
Davis. Somehow missed sitter
Maeda ( hit post )
Mendel ( hit post )
Humprheys x 2 goals
Mehmeti ... good gk saves
Furlong... smacked the bar should have scored

All had chances to score ( humpreys with 2 goals )

What i did find however and please some correct me if im wrong. But between akpom. Emmerson and hirst.. none of our strikers between the two games had a shot at goal..

Agree. I'd only read comments before, but having seen the highlights there were some impressive moments from individuals. Not team play really, admittedly, but some of the new signings, Fatawu and Maeda particularly, made me sit up and take notice a bit.

You can only state the bleedin' obvious so many times about taking time to form a team, especially under a new manager, and new signings still to come (as there are for the clubs we'll be competing with too) but fannies still gonna fanny.

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

Akpom really didn't look much good yesterday against Oxford. MacAteer (who also went close), Clarke (too often mobbed by defenders to get his shots off) and Burns (in flashes) were our main threat on their goal.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Highlights tend to show the best bits from the game. Can’t really read anyth8ng into it.

It’s clear to everyone and of course the club, that we need a strong week in the transfer market.

Doesn't sound a great pre-season, but I wonder how other clubs are faring?

Doubt if that many other sides are not ring rusty and trying to fit new players in.

It was always going to be a tough transition as we knew we had to upgrade the squad when we got promoted. And it's a World Cup year which slowed down the transfer dealings. Then we had Kieran leaving and Gaz coming in. Injuries at CM.

Still got 3 weeks before the PL starts. 4 more weeks before the window closes. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Akpom and Emersonn yesterday looked shockingly bad, probably a handful of touches between them.

Badly need a striker and fast!

I didn't think that Emmerson was that bad. He's also having to get used to the English game, and was given very little decent service.

Funny how people see (or remember) things differently. I saw Furlongs shot from distance as a great effort, rather than a 'should have scored' moment.

Long way to go, plenty of more signings to come but encouraging signs I think.

This is a good point. Strikers dont get the lion share like in days gone by.

Does that not depend upon whether we are thinking better than we are doing, or doing better than we are thinking? Because if we are doing better than we think, then naturally we are thinking worse than we are doing. On the other hand, if we think we are doing better than we are, then we may in fact be doing worse than we think we are doing, although perhaps not as badly as we think we are not.

Now, it obviously folllows that any measurable improvement in our performance may be entirely offset by an improvement in our awareness of previous underperformance, thereby creating the mistaken impression that we are doing no better despite actually doing better than we think. Or, indeed, thinking better than we do. Which, I’m sure everyone would agree, would be an encouraging position to be in going into the season.

Not great in the transfer market. It’s all a bit pants. 6 new signings and 2 are goalkeepers. We need at least 8 more in by the end of the transfer market.

One of the more deranged aspects of modern football is the attention paid to re-season games. Honestly, just ignore them they mean absolutely nothing. They are less important than training sessions.

I don't think there's any world where we have a striker with 20 goals in them next season. 10 at a push.

The issue is those from last season would probably push 5 goals between them and we can't judge Emerson yet.

We need an experienced quality option in there at the right fee and right wages.. We are looking for a purple spotted unicorn.

Seriously, what is the point of you? You have nothing of interest to say ever, just the same negativity time and time again but with nothing factual to back it up. It’s August 2nd and we’ve made 6 signings, two of which are goalkeepers: an area we needed to strengthen. who’s to say we won’t have another eight by the end of the transfer window - this is the real world not Football Manager or whatever the latest iteration is called.

Yeah, i've not watched it back yet, but thought he was inside their box and had a whole goal to aim at and just hit it too high.
