| Caleb Yirenkyi to Cov 11:25 - Aug 5 with 5116 views | Litfc00 | Great signing for Coventry. Surprised we weren’t linked with Yirenkyi given he can play as a box-to-box cm and right back (probably our two biggest needs) Would have been perfect for Town at right back if we’re sticking with this system where the fullbacks invert into midfield. Yirenkyi is the first ‘wow’ signing I’ve seen from Cov or Hull this window. Franculino Dju is another from Midtjylland who I think would smash it in the prem, however it looks like Town are going after peak age ‘ready’ players rather than chasing re-sale value this window so maybe Zian Flemming is a more likely option! | | | | |
| Caleb Yirenkyi to Cov on 11:38 - Aug 5 with 3956 views | Nutkins_Return | Yes he would have been good. Good signing for Cov. I love their fans losing their minds over how good a signing this is compared to ours. 95% of them have no idea who he is or have seen him 1-2 times ever in their lives. It's comedy stuff their specific thread on Hull and Ipswich signings. Every cliche in the book when they are struggling to get people in: 1. "We are only going for quality" 2. "Wouldn't take any of theirs" 3. "Now this person I know nothing about is a real statement" | |

Imagine if you are a CM looking to develop and improve then Frank Lampard is a pretty big pull.

If you were a Coventry fan you’d agree with all of those things.
| Caleb Yirenkyi to Cov on 12:01 - Aug 5 with 3453 views | burnbudgiesburn | Maybe he'll blast the Prem and rocket Cov to dreamy heights. Can guarantee if he signed for us we'd have thought... 1. 'No prem experience' 2. Another Sindre Walle egeli who'll need a year to get up to pace. Which we don't have. | | | |

I wouldn't as I'm capable of being balanced and I don't agree when our fans say the same about other clubs. Used my own judgement. Like this one. Good signing.

Tbf it is a really good signing. Probably the best of the promoted sides so far.

I’d say so, great profile and has looked the part when he’s played against high caliber players in internationals. Was kind of hoping it would be us from nowhere because he is what you need next to a 6 in terms of a player that gets about the pitch and is more box to box. Hopefully we weren’t wasting too much time on CL players if this one was on the table but I’m sure we have our targets. Huge sell on value if it works out as well, Cov will be happy with that. FC Nordsjælland owners must drink the finest champagne, never seen a club make so much profit on players under 21 years old. [Post edited 5 Aug 12:33]

Different positions I know but I wouldn't be swapping Fatawu. I agree it looks an excellent signing. For us so far: Excellent: Maeda, Fatawu and Diop Good: Luis, Kjell S(on paper he looks excellent but not played yet), Van Oevelen (one for future but looks a top signing) Poor Kipre ( good for us at times last season but don't see him in the prem) Surprise packages Akpom (I think £7mil is actually a decent signing. Can't get many players with his record for less and looks sharp in pre-season) Emersonn (Raw but looks decent. We just don't know at this point?

Do you really think so? Honestly, although admittedly it’s not a sexy signing, I think Issa Diop will be the best signing of the promoted teams this window and by quite some distance. Everyone always bangs on about getting someone old with bags of PL experience and we’ve just bagged one in his prime for a bargain price. He’s had 8 seasons in the PL vs Caleb’s one season in Norway. We already have a kid on the books from Nordsjælland, except ours now has a year of English football under his belt.

Both are good signings. Yireknyi could end up being really special. Really good pickup for Cov.

Exactly my take on it. Looks like an incredibly promising youngster, but he's 20. He may have a big future in the game, but expecting him to come from the Danish league and make an impact instantly in the Premier League is a bit far fetched!

I totally agree with this. It's the type of risk signing we just don't need to make. He's 20, has played less than 40 senior club games and is costing £20M+. If we learnt anything last time is that we need more hardened experienced pros to control and keep us in games. We don't need a kid who is learning on the job. [Post edited 5 Aug 13:16]

That depends on the criteria. I agree that Diop is a good signing for a promoted team, raises the level of the squad etc, but Yirenkyi has the potential to be a world class midfielder and by all accounts is playing at a lower prem level already. It's good to have a mix of the two.

I'm talking specifically about midfield. We lost the midfield battle two years ago because we didn't have the legs/ physicality or know how. Upfront, the plan as has been communicated by TWTD/ EADT is to bring in a more established striker to compete with Emersonn.

Nah it’s the kind of profile of player you need in there, exactly what Sunderland did with Sadiki. [Post edited 5 Aug 13:29]

We were starting with Morsy and Phillips in midfield, we had plenty of experience. What we lacked was talent. I was just pointing out that Emersonn fits all of the criteria you said we shouldn't be signing.

I don’t always love the term “Premier league experience” because by definition, anyone playing at a high level in the PL wouldn’t really go to a newly promoted club. Diop might be an exception but there is contractual reasons and a new manger that maybe doesn’t fancy him a starter. Physical athletic profiles from the continent is a good way to spend 25M. Thats why I was very excited about Laurienté link, need more of it for the kind of cash we are chucking around. That would be a good one as he has a proven track record so not as much as gamble either.

As I said, I'm talking specifically about midfield recruitment. Emersonn has nothing to do with midfielders.
| Caleb Yirenkyi to Cov on 14:04 - Aug 5 with 1972 views | Devereuxxx | The sort of signing which is high risk for a newly promoted side. He's got clear potential, but he won't have much time to get up to speed. Coventry, like us, have 38 games to try and stay up, and if it takes a top prospect takes half the season to acclimatise, then it can impact your chances of staying up. CM such an important position as well, as has been discussed in depth on this board. Of course, could be high reward as well. They'll probably recoup their money if he has a decent season and they go down. Happy to eat my words if he turns out to be a star and helps them stay up, but I prefer the 'proven' route we're going down this window. | | | |
