I wasn't at the game, but a friend who was there said that there were major queues, and some people didn't get into the ground until 10 minutes after kick-off. It took a while for the machine to recognise the phones, and it was especially a pain for families with multiple members on one phone.

Oh dear, no sooner do I understand a new technology, then an even newer one overtakes it! I have no idea what a "Google Wallet" or "NFC" is . I'm going to have to get my son to help me on that one.

Do you use supermarket loyalty cards? The data on those is much more valuable and is actively sold.
Edit: and I’ve been reading Apple’s TOCs, and there is no mention of them selling this information. Often they explicitly say they don’t even keep it. How did you come to this view? [Post edited 5 Aug 18:46]

I just came on here to see if anyone was mentioning this. I've never used NFC or Google wallet before so a right faff to sort that out. Then a massive queue outside the Cobbold, unsure who was queuing for which gate, so , can you believe it, had to talk to people to find out! Then finally got to the people doing the scanning and the thing clearly wasn't working so she just let me in. Seems they've swapped a perfectly good qr scanning system that didn't need staff to oversee it, to a non functioning piece of tech. Got in 1 min before ko but even though a decent game, not exactly a great match day experience. |  | | |

I must admit I avoid using them for payments as both use that data and sell it. As I'm against the UK government introducing a digital ID, as we know it will be used eventually to track us, I'm also against American companies tracking me including where I spend money. But to be fair I know a lot of people are happy to be tracked by US Corporate capilist companies. |
The data is not sold. In fact, using an Apple wallet is far more secure and the data more protected than any other payment method (even cash, since if you lose cash or have it stolen, you have almost zero chance of recovering it).
No Transaction History: Apple does not keep or see your individual purchase history, transaction amounts, or store locations. Those details stay between you, your bank, and the shop.
Hidden Card Numbers: Your actual credit or debit card numbers are never saved on Apple's servers or shared with merchants during a purchase. The card details aren’t even sent to the vendor you are purchasing from.

Worked perfectly fine, straight in, albeit was there early.
Bigger issue is that the new extension to the West Stand is surely not going to be completed in time for the first game of the season. Just 13000 to get into a stand with no turnstiles; nor walls nor sides to the extension, which is only partly roofed... [Post edited 5 Aug 18:18]
