Unfortunately I've just been made from my job with very little notice.
Struggling to come to terms with being at home despite trying as hard as I can to secure employment but doesn't appear to be much about and am desperate.
Just asking if anyone knows of any jobs which involve Warehouse positions, Stores , Driving jobs etc -I would be so grateful - only really looking for M- F work and ideally not shift work but maybe it's something I will have to consider but extremely keen to get back to the real world of working again ASAP - this is killing me. |  |

I have no idea, just thinking out loud as to what I'd do if it was me!
I suppose going self employed off the bat isn't feasible?
Maybe plumbers are more in demand than brickies? |
Sorry, I wasn't criticising you, just pointing out something I found surprising and rather counter-intuitive.
Indeed, there seems to be a general problem in that we are training more people in all sorts of sectors than there are jobs for them. Even doctors, mental health nurses and midwives seem to be affected.
But maybe Sizewell C offers more possibilities in all sorts of fields. [Post edited 6 Aug 10:57]

Sizewell/Nucclear power are also likely to be part of long term structural thematics too.
I think now more than ever if I was out of work I'd take a step back and take stock of the world and see where the opportunituies are.
We are without doubt entering a period of enormous structural change, for everyone.

If you've got the time and inclination, I'd still recommend going after your former employer if they haven't followed the mandatory processes for redundancy. Could result in a nice little lump-sum. | |

Sorry to hear that. I have a relative near Ipswich whose business was hit hard during Covid so picked up a job in Morrisons warehouse to top up his income. Always worth trying the supermarkets who are looking for people in the warehouse dept and drivers. |
The supermarket route is a good way to go as an interim measure, as the work forces can be quite transient. You may have to perhaps consider some sort of shift pattern, as that's the way those places operate. Shift work though can give you the time to explore other avenues of employment in your spare time. All the best and keep positive.

I was made redundant in April on the day I'd returned to work after overseas holiday, completely out of the blue but possibly foreseeable, loss making parent company (based in Crewe) taken over by 2 private investors from Manchester who wanted to centralise a few functions, including mine.
There was a consultation process, but when I was told of the pay off I decided to roll over & play ball, was released on the lunchtime before Charlton game, which made getting to the match easier & then not having to worry about the next day.
Late June I got a call from DWP as they'd noticed I didn't get paid in June (redundancy pay off paid in May), which was weird. They put me on weekly telephone appointments, again I've played along with this although repeating that I hadn't put a claim in!
What had happened is that 2 years or so ago someone had advised my wife that she could receive a benefit that wasn't means tested, so she submitted a claim. As we are married & live together we were told it had to be a joint claim, which given my salary & our savings was amusing.
She was awared benefit (can't remember it's name) at £0.00 per week (yes zero pounds) as I earned above a threshold limit, so when I ceased to earn they automatically made a payment to me!
In the meantime my wife had taken a part time job as maternity cover, which ended at the end of July. So payment was for me & not her "without claiming"
As for job hunting, I've been looking but not too hard, due to the financial safety net I have, and hey, the summer has been pretty good. My S-i-L over from Colombia, so plenty of time catering for her (not in that way! Keno/Wally)
I have a defined benefits pension that matures in 2 years time, so not overly fussed about a career and have had to create multiple CVs so as not to "scare" hiring managers. I think I'm going to end up trade plate driving as a couple of business contacts keep talking about "mañana" projects which sound interesting but none being firmed up as yet.
Oh & I ain't sitting around kicking my heals, the dog is going to miss me when I go back to work! Plus my wife volunteers us for various good deeds, and then there's the touristy stuff.
I did the same when redundant during Covid, found it gave me the energy & enthusiasm to attack the next job with vigour.
The only downside, if they'd made me redundant BEFORE my holiday, I'd have stayed on holiday & travelled a bit more oh well |  |

Working in telecommunications I’ve been made redundant more times than I can remember (albeit with a 3 month notice period and enhanced redundancy)
