| Fulham fans view of Lukic and his departure 11:46 - Aug 8 with 4367 views | unstableblue | Some themes emerging from the Fulham forum thread on our new player: https://www.friendsoffulham.co 1) his age and length of remaining contract is being accepted as the reason to move him on and still get £9m 2) they’re wanting a younger midfield and can’t really offer Lukic the longer deal we have provided 3) he is well liked and rated… but again not someone to provide assists or threat 4) positive to hear he sounds a good dressing room character - think that’s important 5) my hope is Fulham realise he was a part of the depth they needed to continually overperform in modern table Some quotes: “Actually properly distraught lukic is leaving! Feel like he is a proper good egg with a big heart. He's played the most honest minutes out of anyone for a long time at the club, you can see how much it means to him and how much he wanted to succeed for us and himself. He was a class act too, a really good, reliable midfielder. I will be missing a face from our squad for the next couple of years and that face will be his. Hopefully it'll just be cosmetic and when the football gets kicked and the game starts, I hope I'm not asking 'where's Lukic?'” “A CM who has more yellow cards than goal involvements when he was tasked with playing as a #8 and is about to turn 30 is not the sort of player who will make us better as a team and should be sold while he still retains some financial value that can be invested into a younger and better prospect” “—- He apparently was not interested in discussing a new deal—— I can believe that! Fans too often think a player wants to remain with their team unless they are recruited by a bigger or better club. Moving side ways or even down for many players is often about securing extra years on their contracts plus a signing fee, bonus etc. He was reportedly on £63 grand a week with us and maybe we offered 1 more year and no pay rise (Cairney and Reed for example are on much less) so if Ipswich offered a 3 year contract (even with a relegation clause) and regular playing time its a win, win.” | |

Yup, that stood out for me Cheltenham. Not sure we’ll be paying him that on a 4 (FOUR) year deal; but it’ll be around £50k a week I reckon. And Maeda, Diop will be on similar. As you say some strong relegation clauses needed. £2.6m multiplied by a number of quality players does dent that large Sky revenue somewhat.

Yes Fulham fans saying he likes to give away a yellow on the edge of the box! Only think we’ll ever play a max of two for those three; and that will be away from home. At home against ‘easier’ opponents I’d hope to see someone more progressive. But as you say with yellows a liability you need depth to cover the suspensions.

That's why we have three - to cover for suspensions! In reality, the team are going to have to do a lot of tackling this season.

Last time out we couldn’t get near the ball to win it back at times. I’m excited by our ball winners this time around. Just hope we have the players that can hurt teams up top. [Post edited 8 Aug 13:15]

I'm very comfortable with that. We need to have a bit of steel in the centre of the park in what is going to be a challenging season. This was a major weakness the last time we were in the Premiership. Hopefully no running through us in midfield this time. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I won’t mind that as long as we’re not propping up the league table at the same time. We were an absolute push over last time - men against boys - so I’m really pleased to see these men coming in.

Yep Lukic is a horrible player to play against. Been a fan of his for a while. Did a great job replacing Palhinia when he left Fulham.

I think I heard Kieran Maguire say on a podcast that the data shows that correlation between high wage bill and success is massively strong, more so than transfer fees etc.

Sounds fairly normal to me. Maybe you should ask for a promotion? He sounds like the sort of player you want as your stock players doing the hard graft and then you sprinkle a little bit of quality around them. A potential unsung hero.

Yes, that is the key correlation. I studied it over an extended number of seasons as part of my MSc in [off-field] football management, some years ago but I have continued to follow ongoing studies, which have been consistent.

Will be under 5M against SCR for this year on the books with the contract length, very normal PL wages. [Post edited 8 Aug 20:05]
