1) his age and length of remaining contract is being accepted as the reason to move him on and still get £9m
2) they’re wanting a younger midfield and can’t really offer Lukic the longer deal we have provided
3) he is well liked and rated… but again not someone to provide assists or threat
4) positive to hear he sounds a good dressing room character - think that’s important
5) my hope is Fulham realise he was a part of the depth they needed to continually overperform in modern table

I can believe that!
Fans too often think a player wants to remain with their team unless they are recruited by a bigger or better club.
Moving side ways or even down for many players is often about securing extra years on their contracts plus a signing fee, bonus etc.
He was reportedly on £63 grand a week with us and maybe we offered 1 more year and no pay rise (Cairney and Reed for example are on much less) so if Ipswich offered a 3 year contract (even with a relegation clause) and regular playing time its a win, win.”

Yup, that stood out for me Cheltenham.
Not sure we’ll be paying him that on a 4 (FOUR) year deal; but it’ll be around £50k a week I reckon.
And Maeda, Diop will be on similar.
As you say some strong relegation clauses needed.
£2.6m multiplied by a number of quality players does dent that large Sky revenue somewhat. | |

Only think we’ll ever play a max of two for those three; and that will be away from home.
At home against ‘easier’ opponents I’d hope to see someone more progressive.
But as you say with yellows a liability you need depth to cover the suspensions. | |

I'm very comfortable with that. We need to have a bit of steel in the centre of the park in what is going to be a challenging season. This was a major weakness the last time we were in the Premiership. Hopefully no running through us in midfield this time. | | | |

Yes, that is the key correlation. I studied it over an extended number of seasons as part of my MSc in [off-field] football management, some years ago but I have continued to follow ongoing studies, which have been consistent. | | | |
