Just read a small interview with him in the Athletic. He was very dismissive of his aborted move to Town last summer - "There was a little bit of something (in terms of interest) last summer,” he says. “Nothing really happened and then more or less straight after the season, there was something again."
Hmm..I thought we had agreed a fee with Boro, but Hackney pretty much turned down what he must have seen as a sideways move. Was one of the best players in the Championship last season; Everton is probably a good move for him. |  |

Think its been reported that it was done by and large, but then there was potential premier league interest, which he wanted to wait for, which didn't materialise.
Maybe that's not the full facts of course, but he definitely was at Playford Road. Not sure what pretending it didn't happen does for him. |  |

The Finn Azaz move (£15m) from Boro to Southampton, late in the window, likely took away the need for them to encourage Hackney to jump at that time. There was definitely a feeling that they wanted to cash in at some level and it seemed Hackney was the most obvious way of doing it until the Azaz deal came along. He was never really interested, I was told that from the start. Clubs agreed the fee, Town - and I assume his agent - tried to persuade him to make the switch. Town flew him down, gave him the tour, Kieran spoke to him etc, but he still didn't fancy it.

I’m surprised we’d negotiate with any indication that the player might be interested Phil. I understand they may want other interest than us but looking at his injury record you can see why there isn’t. I read he was offered to Fulham but they didn’t pursue. If he wants the PL then someone like us currently is next on that food chain. |  |
