| Hayden Hackney 16:06 - Aug 11 with 4759 views | Radlett_blue | Just read a small interview with him in the Athletic. He was very dismissive of his aborted move to Town last summer - "There was a little bit of something (in terms of interest) last summer,” he says. “Nothing really happened and then more or less straight after the season, there was something again." Hmm..I thought we had agreed a fee with Boro, but Hackney pretty much turned down what he must have seen as a sideways move. Was one of the best players in the Championship last season; Everton is probably a good move for him. | |

Maybe that's not the full facts of course, but he definitely was at Playford Road. Not sure what pretending it didn't happen does for him.

It might be true but if it isn't, he isn't likely to say yea I strongly considered moving to a team in the same division. Why upset the Boro fans? If McKenna is interviewed and asked about Palace or Brighton I doubt he would say I was 50/50 (or more in their favour). He will say what we all want to hear.

Indeed & of course Hackney is bigging up Moyes, as almost every player does to his new manager. Haven't heard too many say "When I heard Gary O'Neil wanted me, I got straight into the car to sign" though.

So you think Boro have a matching rights clause? Bold.

Even joking, that makes zero sense!
| Hayden Hackney on 16:43 - Aug 11 with 3781 views | 1Warky | The Finn Azaz move (£15m) from Boro to Southampton, late in the window, likely took away the need for them to encourage Hackney to jump at that time. There was definitely a feeling that they wanted to cash in at some level and it seemed Hackney was the most obvious way of doing it until the Azaz deal came along. Probably didn't help our cause. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

He was never really interested, I was told that from the start. Clubs agreed the fee, Town - and I assume his agent - tried to persuade him to make the switch. Town flew him down, gave him the tour, Kieran spoke to him etc, but he still didn't fancy it.

Considerably more than, "There was a little bit of something (in terms of interest) last summer," then. He's moved on now, not really sure how playing our interest down does anything for him.

Read itfcjoe's comments - people are getting excited about nothing (not that that ever happens on the forum)

Does seem that way. You'd assume the Bild and La Nacion claims he wants to go to a bigger club than us would have come from his agent.
| Hayden Hackney on 17:36 - Aug 11 with 2879 views | tetchris | He could bomb and end up back on loan to a championship club after one season. | | | |
| Hayden Hackney on 18:28 - Aug 11 with 2478 views | armchaircritic59 | Then after that dream, he woke up and faced reality. Didn't want to come here, thought a PL club would be straight in for him, got it wrong. Now they have. Should do well in the PL, but then so should have many other players that I've seen over the decades in the top league, but didn't. | | | |

I’m surprised we’d negotiate with any indication that the player might be interested Phil. I understand they may want other interest than us but looking at his injury record you can see why there isn’t. I read he was offered to Fulham but they didn’t pursue. If he wants the PL then someone like us currently is next on that food chain.
