Poll: Should we block polls for one day?

Delap wouldn’t want to come back because his butler and chef - Slicks, is away on a season long loan.

Poll: Are we happy with the takeover?

Would definitely take him on loan but wouldn't pay £40m for someone who has had a bad season since we sold him for £30m

Plenty do and do very well, notably in recent years in Delap’s position, Daryl Murphy REPEATEDLY returned.

He may well make it somewhere else, but I would rather it wasn't here.
If he comes here, I will back him 100%.

Poll: New hobby suggestions for NeedhamChris.

Yeah, why would we want one of the best young strikers in the country - probably best be signs for a divisional rival…

the reaction to an average to poor season at Chelsea is highly reactionary, shortsighted and totally strips the context of what’s going on at Chelsea and how that may effect any young player going in there, let alone a striker!

I agree the reaction re Delap is rather mad. But Embolo is a far more suitable striker for us this season and would be a phenomenal signing.

this would be absolutely ideal - beats tf out of Embolo, should be moving heaven and earth to make it happen.

Just as well we have Mark Ashton making decisions , not you

Embolo at just under £15m (IIRC Rennes will accept 17m euros for him) is a far better deal considering his record and experience than Delap at £35m more, albeit prior to negotiation.

What was the sell on clause for Delap? Does that make it more doable?

I’m starting to wonder how many minutes you lads have actually seen Embolo play for…

Embolo is 29 and has only ever hit double figures outside of Switzerland once in his entire career, but sure mate.

You keep tickling modest Marks balls.

Its not £35m more. Seems a deal for Delap could be done at £35m which in the grand scheme of things isn't a lot more than we sold him for. Embolo is also 29 and will have limited resale value. If Delap has a season or 2 like the last time he was here he'd still only be 24 / 25 and probably worth £50m.

What makes you feel that way about Embolo?

I’m genuinely starting to wonder how much our supporters actually know about him and how much they’ve seen him play - he’s not a bad player, but it’s a dead cert that Delap will have a career that eclipses Embolo.

Embolo is 30 early next year and will have very little resale value, his statistics are average at best and his underlying numbers don’t suggest he’s about to tear up any trees.

Is it as simple as, a few supporters saw him in the World Cup and thought he looked good?
Because I’m a bit surprised people in seriousness are suggesting that Embolo would be their preference over Delap.

Glad I’m not alone in this thinking, was starting to feel a little bit twilight zone.

I'd take either at this stage, I think they both improve us, but comparing the relative transfer fees is apples & pears really.

I don't really warm to Delap as a person, which isn't the end of the world and you can't like every player. But there are certain players you love to see succeed and he isn't one.

I've seen loads of Embolo over the years. He's a very competent, experienced 'team striker' with pushing 250 appearances at the top levels in Germany/France, nearly 100 international appearances and pushing 60 games in the Champions League/Europa League. Not a prolific goalscorer but he has a strong all round game and is a worker/facilitator. I feel like our flair players like Enciso, Fatawu, Philogene would love playing off him.

He's a striking equivalent of Lukic/Diop really. You aren't signing him to double his valuation on the balance sheet over the next couple of seasons and to realise a profit. You are signing a hugely experienced player that can do a great job for us now. Does Delap have a higher ceiling? Probably. But he also has a much lower floor this season. And staying up this season is all that matters for now.

'it’s a dead cert that Delap will have a career that eclipses Embolo. '

You think Delap scores 26 international goals and appears at 3 World Cups? Bold claim!

this is it, whatever happens we need a starting number 9, ahead of Emersonn, someone with a bit more experience who is just that bit ahead of him in development - Embolo realistically could be overtaken by Emersonn, but there’s no way Emersonn is overtaking Delap.

I doubt Embolo would have 92 England caps either to be fair

You think international football is the measure of career? Don’t be daft, players like Borgetti had exceptional international careers compared to vastly superior strikers, such as Chris Sutton, purely by luck of being born in Mexico and not England - I think you’re being deliberately obtuse.
