Thought I'd see how Hirst and Johnson are doing for Stoke today.

Hirst touched the ball 4 times first half and has been absolutely awful which has been sad to see. Passed the ball straight out of play start of second half. His confidence is rock bottom and his control and play is so poor at the moment. Missed one that knocked them out of cup. It's been a horror show start at Stoke.

We often here that the players are not to blame, which is utter nonsense. In Chaplins and Burns case, we can definitely say that is not the case. They are currently playing in a Russell Martin side. He can make the best look absolutely average. |  |

Seems like Russel Martin would be the very worst manager for Wes Burns, or anyone who likes to make a direct run in behind, stretch defences and show some genuine intent to score a goal. Feel like he'd rather play 5 central midfielders across the pitch so they can pass it sideways to eachother. |

Its very simple
They were a team of misfits who had some talent but many weaknesses.
What KM football allowed was for their better part of talents to come out
Move on and be asked to be different types of players and playing with others hurts them
Similar to when we brought in sammy s and akpom under KM. We didnt use them in a way that utilised what they were best at.... |
Completely agree with what is there. I'd just add that many of the players were over their peak when leaving. Eg:
Burns > injury > 31 when left
Morsy > pace dropped off > 32 when left
Luongo > injury before he joined, dropping off > 31 when left |  |

Players need to feel the love, both from Manager and supporters and success breeds success as we found with promotions in consecutive seasons.
Players like Freddie came in. Were not perhaps the greatest but managed 20 goals in a season.
They were all what they were. Suited by the divisions they were in and were found out when stepped up to the Championship or the Premier league.

I reckon somebody must have made a deal with the devil that anybody who was part of the double promotion side would have their career go down the pan after leaving us.
Hladky has hardly played a game since leaving us.
Burgess wasn’t pulling up trees at Swansea and now has a horror injury.
Woolfie can’t get a game at Coventry and just seems to spend his time arguing with people and moaning.
Fridge is despised by Boro fans, Sarmiento isnt that popular either.
Luongo got crocked immediately.
Morsys Middle East move failed and was poor at Bristol City. Time will tell how he gets on with Blackburn.
Chappers poor at Pompey and now injured back in League One.
Harness and Jackson both flopped at Derby and are now being bang average in League One.
Broadhead in and out of the Wrexham team.

Wow that's some list isn't it. My hunch is that KM was a brilliant coach and man manager, hopefully GON might just be a slightly better tactician. We obviously have a better standard of player now than we did two years ago so no excuse not to do better. Still slightly shudder at the memory of Phillips and Cajuste in midfield. |  | | |

It seems to be the usual thing when are transferred from successful teams; the players find it difficult to find form. Family life gets disrupted and the new manager 's tactics are poor. Hirst looks a perfect example of this. There must be over 40 ex Town players in the last 5 years we have sold or jettisoned who are not performing well at their new clubs. It is quite sad to see them struggling. | |

It shows what momentum, coaching and team cohesion can do because on an individual level i can’t say I’m that surprised. How on earth did we get nearly 100 points from a pure talent standpoint, put that team up against the 2024 Leeds squad player for player, unbelievable.
Some good players in there of course but we literally had Harness up front for about 6 weeks. |

I remember v oxford he just didnt try to get past a man. Today looking at leicester fan follow ups they said the same. Perhaps hes ok when hes running but maybe not 100% bursting away? | |

Terrible move for him, have absolutely no idea why he agreed to it. We wanted to sell him because he had more value than akpom , but at the moment the window shuts we play him if he’s the best option in any particular given moment. I think he has to back himself to be a better option than chuba.
He should’ve been confident of establishing himself as third choice. Seems mad to have given up all of the status, he built up here. He is now a bottom end championship player at a club that’s imploding. [Post edited 30 Aug 6:33]
