| Offer in for Zian Flemming… on 11:50 - Aug 31 by burnbudgiesburn | Burnley can probably squeeze a few more £££ out of us sadly knowing we are a bit desperate. So we'll likely have to overpay. Needs must however. I like Flemming, but it still rankles with me we could have picked him up from Millwall on our last promotion for a lot less. |
However, unlike many previous seasons, we can afford to do that (within reason). It's not going to be Delap levels of overpayment.

| Offer in for Zian Flemming… on 11:51 - Aug 31 by Guillermo_Edwards | maybe akpom goes to burnley as part of an exchange deal for flemming, and we get tammy too on loan until Jan initially. seems silly, but the whole window has been loony |
I can't see it happening but going into the season with Abraham, Emmerson and Flemming as our striker options would be superb. My only question mark for the forward positions if that happened would be right wing. We have adequate cover for everyone non-defensive position bar there. I'll be concerned if we head into September with the reserve options being Clarke, Egeli or McAteer. Two would be out of position and the third is not up to the task.

| Offer in for Zian Flemming… on 12:00 - Aug 31 by pointofblue | His ability to cover more than one position is an upside to Abraham. If Maeda picks up an injury, he can come in at ten with Enciso moving to the left. Aren't Lille to supposed to be targeting Ueda over Flemming? |
Sorry, are you saying Abraham can play at 10? Because he can't

Very true, but more importantly believes he's too good for us so he can do one.

I have to be honest, the constant pile on of Akpom really doesn't sit well with me. He appears to be the number 1 scapegoat for many. Do I think we need an upgrade on him? Of course, but,he has been regularly targeted by many for criticism even when not the worst performer on the pitch. He seems a good lad, worked hard in the summer and O'Neil appears to trust him too. My only nagging doubt is I presume Abraham would be the cheaper deal of the two, as he's a straight loan rather than buy, which would have left more.momey available to perhaps target another player. By buying Flemming, does this restrict us elsewhere where we have, at best, a drop of quality from starter to reserve - full back, centre back, right wing?

Like AAH? Ridiculous to say that. Loads worse and clearly worked hard over the summer. OK he's not the standard we would like for PL, but I am not sure he is as bad as some make out. Seems cool to pile onto Akpom at the moment, why, suppose it's his fault he didn't flick it out of HM reach to handball it?

There's always an element of scapegoatism from the more braindead element of any teams support. It is nothing new. Mich D'Avray got dogs abuse for not being Paul Mariner, and I was watching some highlights from the mid-70's when David Johnson scored and ran back to the half way line flicking V's in the direction of the west stand!

I’m with you on this. Seems like some of our supporters need to have someone they can have a down on. Really don’t understand it.

I don't think anyone is blaming him for the goal. I can't believe so many people are snivelling around going "But it was accidental". Rubbish it was - not with his arms there. But that's for one of the other 100 threads on the matter. Akpom was supposed to play a big part in our success last year. We overpaid to beat Birmingham to the bunch but, unfortunately, he has not reached the heights expected or he has shown before. Part of the reason we collapsed yesterday is he could not hold the ball up, which perhaps shows how much I, for one, underestimated Emmerson's contribution in the first half. Whatever he had at Middlesbrough has now gone and he needs a change of scenery for his sake. The best thing for him would be a swap deal for Flemming and being the leading man for Burnley. But we need to bringing in a further striker - Abraham? - to facilitate that.

Give over. It’s what this place is for, discussing football. He’s not being made a scapegoat at all, it’s supporters pointing out he’s not good enough, which is true.

I actually think Flemming was quite high on our list and probably wasn’t one that would be done until this time in the window, heard his name mentioned a few months ago.

| Offer in for Zian Flemming… on 12:42 - Aug 31 with 1152 views | Trequartista | Zian Flemming by Trequartista 26 Aug 9:18My first thought was not another Burnley promotion yo-yo player but hadn't realised he scored 11 premier league goals in a team that struggled badly, almost a carbon copy of Delap, so with time running out, I'd say this would be an ideal signing. The fact he has made himself available for selection for Burnley this season is a good reflection on his character. | |

but you don't discuss do you? If people dont agree with you they are always wrong......If someone believes Akpom good enough that is in there right. A discussion is about two way conversation, not slating any opposing opinion to yourself. Learn those simple rules and you will be respected far more.

I know he is not to blame for the goal, I was making a ridiculous point in response to the poster. We all know why the goal should not have stood, expect the Ref. Can't blame VAR as i think the stupid rules don't allow VAR to looked as the ref has deemed it accidental. Yes Akpom has hugely disappointed, especially last season, but it's who we have now thanks to a series of decisions from the club. If we need someone to hold the ball up we know Hirst can do that. We can't possibly let Akpom go unless Flemming is signed AND we have another striker in the door but that isn't happening really unless a loan as Flemming must take us near our PSR limit.
